Ii's a good thing the female beetles are bisexual. Do you pour deer urine on yourself before hunting too? ![]() PS: Lesbos rule!!

Re: freaking beetles!
Well, just to sum up on this thread...there were about 8 cigars in the infested tupperdor. Now that I've bombed Scottw, I'm down to 2. Whoa, did that just slip out?
KIDDING. So I froze the tupperdor and isolated two sticks in particular. The cheapy Orange County rolled cigar with the beetle holes and the Gurkha 1887 that a freakin' beetle was crawling on a day after I noticed the original holes. Now that the cigars (and tupperdor) have been out of the freeze and have been resting back in the Vino, I've wanted to smoke these questionable cigars first so I haven't been able to get to any new or bombed smokes because I wanted these suckers GONE. I'm now down to an Oliva Serie V & a Gurkha Warlord (Bobby, want it?? Just kiddin', I'm sure it's chock full of beetles, but perhaps not). I've had the Gurkha 1887, the La Flor Dominicana El Jocko, Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente and a few others and I've found that the freezing (while I was nervous about doing it) had no ill effects on the cigar. They still tasted great and didn't even crackle (what happens when you burn a beetle alive) so I've got to think that the beetle I found on the foot of the 1887 was about enjoy his meal there when I flushed him down the toilet. It seems he only dived into the cheapy OC cigar and left the others for me. ![]() I still have the two left isolated in the tupperdor and they've never had any contact with any of the other cigars in the humi (and all the others after numerous inspection are intact). So I can't wait to get rid of these two stragglers, remove the tupperdor from the Vino for good and never have to face beetles again! |

Re: freaking beetles!
A good way to tell if a cigar has or has had a beetle present is to hold the foot over white paper and tap the side of the cigar. If a beetle has been present, beetle chit will fall out on the paper. It looks like very small black rice pellets. That's the main reason I won't smoke an infected cigar, the chit.

Re: freaking beetles!
Also, I believe it is the larvae that eats the holes in the cigars and not the actual beetle. I may be wrong about this though so someone please correct me if I am.

Re: freaking beetles!
I've been lucky I guess, never had a beetle infestation of any sort.
I'm not against freezling, but have never frozen a single stick, mostly because they all have come from trusted sources. You can bet I'll freeze anything that I have even the least suspicion it's been stored improperly or caroused with suspect sticks. |

Re: freaking beetles!
In 35 years, I have had a beetle problem twice. Both times I put all the affected cigars in a zip lock bag, put them in the freezer for 3 days, then in the refrigerator for one day, then back into the humidor. Both times it solved my problem. Hope this helps.
