This one seems to be getting a little too political. While I myself do not mind discussing my political beliefs, these discussions are against the rules on this forum. The thread is being monitored by the staff and if it continues on this path it will be closed!

Well in all fairness it probably never really had a chance considering the title and content. We have tried to make it just basically humorous.

The truth is that it's a political issue that could affect most everyone on this forum. I think that the posts have lacked any meanness or name calling among members though. And I agree that it has been mostly light-hearted.

JFK used to bum cigs off of my grandfather who worked in his campaign. He couldn't be seen buying or smoking them but bummed them off my grandfather in private because they smoked the same kind

There was also the story of the junior senator calling the capital police on his neighbor because he was smoking a cigar in his office, which is technically against the rules but is/was widely accepted.

Yes. As I remember it was 1800 cigars.

Same here. I heard he asked Salinger (his press secretary) to find him as many H. Upmann Petit Coronas as he could, and he wound up with somewhere between 1200 and 1800. The real question is:

What the glowing-cherry ever happened to all those glorious La Habana sticks? He couldn't possibly have smoked them all.

There's probably some left that get tapped into now and then. Presidents have a history of getting into leftovers of previous administrations. Harding gambled away Harrison's White House china set...

But I doubt they made it past the Nixon administration, haha.

The ironic thing is that it's customary for the newly-elected President's administration to give out cigars. Clinton passed out a leather-bound box of specially made of H. Upmanns (embossed with the Presidential Seal), and Bush gave out a canister of some reportedly less-than-impressive Philippine sticks on Air Force One.
