Wet cigar blues
I ate lunch today and settled down for a quick smoke on my first RP Fusion.
Initial light was good but then I had problems keeping it lit. I eventually cut it in half and tried again and it feels wet. How long do you guys let a cigar sit out before you smoke it? I pulled the other cigar I have along with me out of the plastic and it's sitting here till this afternoons break on my keyboard.. drying out a little. thanks jake

Re: Wet cigar blues
I usually "dry-box" my cigars anywhere from 1 - 10 days.

Re: Wet cigar blues
How humid is your humi? I store mine much drier than the 70/70 "standard".
Also try dry boxing for a day or two

Re: Wet cigar blues
I don't let mine sit out at all and my smokes are pretty much all good unless they messed up during the construction, like rolling it way too tight.
I have the Heartfelt bead puck style humidifier and it keeps my humi at a steady 68%-69%. It never varies from that unless it needs more water added. Even if you're at 70% your cigars should never feel wet or have a seriously troublesome time staying lit. I used to use the Madeline's solution and held 70%, sometimes it would even go higher, and I never had this problem. Rev. |

Re: Wet cigar blues
Averageing around 65% right now.. I had a lot of goodies in there for humidifying and it was over 70% for a week but has settled down. Perhaps they are still a little wet?
I'll try unwrapping them and putting them in my travel leather case and they should dry enough by the time I smoke them.

Re: Wet cigar blues
I go with the 70% beads and then when I want a smoke I put all my picks into a seperate humi with no beads and let them dry out for a couple of days and they are perfect. Since I have been doing this I don't have to deal with the wet or hard to draw cigars.

My guess would be that they have not settled down to 65% yet. Try taking one out of the humidor for a while before you smoke it.

I agree. When I purchase a cigar at a b&m that has thier humidor at 70% I always let it settle at 65% or less for a couple of weeks. I store my smoking cigars at around 60% so I have almost stopped dry-boxing. I don't mind letting them sit out though. I currently have had a cigar on the counter at work for over 3 hours and it will burn as soon as I am out of here. |

Re: Wet cigar blues
I just check on them every day to see if they need a little more time before I smoke them. I always like to test the draw before I smoke a cigar. The torch doesn't go near the cigar unless it everything is a-ok. |

Re: Wet cigar blues
I have my humi around 65/63rh and still usually take one out a day in advance if I want to smoke it. There is something wonderful about a drier cigar.

Re: Wet cigar blues
Got home last night after a long day and fired up a dark colored NUB. It seemed to burn ok but I could barely draw through it. It was very heavy so I'm assumeing that the same befell that one. I smoked till I got tired of trying to get smoke through it and then went to a NUB that I just recieved and was not in the humi for more than a day.
Frustrating.

Re: Wet cigar blues
Lighting issues are often a problem of varying humidity iwthin the cigar...as in the center of the gar may be more humid than the outer edge.
This is especially true for large RG cigars. The best answer is to box them at a stable humidity for at least a week prior to smoking. That's what my jars are for...they stay at an exact 72% for anywhere from a week to months in there.
