Re: God of Fire
I bought two GOF robusto tubos on C-bid ($18 each?) a couple of months ago - smoked one recently. It was good, but not great.
Pretty label, cool packaging, excellent construction etc. (if you're into such things). I would pay $8 to $10 for one of these in the future.

Re: God of Fire
Never smoked one, but I wanted to kinda add something else to the mix. I was going to try these and Opus X, and will definitely try the Opus someday soon, but I realized something.... what if I do really love it? They are just waaaaay too expensive! I love Padron 1926 and they can be $20 a pop but at least that's a little more reasonable. It's still not something I can smoke several a week of, but I can find a bit better pricing on them.
Either way, $30 or more for a cigar is just nuts IMO, unless I hit the lottery or something, and I make a decent living. And, if I didn't like it I'd feel like an ass spending so much when I could buy many many more of my favorites for the same price. I had a point where I was about to order a bunch of the uber-premium stogies at that price range and then I stopped myself and said, "Why!?". If I turn out to love them it's going to screw me financially if I don't control myself. And if I don't like them I'm going to kick myself hard. Personally, no joke now, I've been finding myself liking cheaper smokes better! Not cause they're cheaper, I've just been enjoying some of the lower priced ones more. For example, some of my top current favorites are Bolivar Cofradia 654, Padron 4000, St. Luis Rey G Maduro, and RP Edge Maduro. Each of which is generally about $6 and under! Rev. |

Re: God of Fire
I have two in my humi that I've been holding on to, but haven't been able to bring myself to torch them yet. I'm afraid that they won't live up to the hype and I'll kick myself in the rear for laying out the coin for them.

Re: God of Fire
Well, like I said, Opus are more within my price range ~$20. Anything over and things are a little too kooky for me to try. There are some Opus X in sampler packs on holts.com which is what I was eyeing to be honest. GOF though at an average of $30 are just too pricey for me. Like I said, If I love them then what?
If I don't like them I'll feel cheated and/or stupid being I could've gotten about 11 of the Bolivar Cofradia's instead ![]() Rev. |

As I learned in Scotland, I'm not "cheap", I'm just "frugal", and it's a Good Thing. Right? Hey, if some of the Brothers can smoke $40 worth of cigars every day, I'm certainly not going to begrudge them or criticize them for it. If anything, I'm jealous. I wonder if CI would let me live in their warehouse and work for food and stogies, like, on a voucher system or something? Seriously, I can sleep just about anywhere, and I usually eat like a college student most of the time.

Re: God of Fire
I have tried them in the past but can't get past the pricing even if they are a decent cigar. There are far too many cigars out there that I could be smoking which are decently priced. But if you have extra cash to spread around I suppose the GOF is cheap enough.

Re: God of Fire
Opus isn't worth it to me. At all. Your taste is similar to mine I think, so take it for what it's worth. Go to El Cid's and grab one for the Hell of it.

Re: God of Fire
I think the God of Fire cigars are good cigar's. However, like it has been stated, I don't think they are worth the price. However, on occassion, like if I'm at Casa Fuente in Vegas, I might smoke one on a special occassion.

Re: God of Fire
Interesting thread. I'm not a fan of the God of Fire brand. I find it a very one-dimensional smoke (great looking, sure... but I'm paying for taste).
The GOF has a very different profile than the Opus X. While the GOF is a medium-bodied smoke, the Opus is usually a leathery, spicey powerhouse, and far more complex. That said, I feel that the Ashton VSG and Tatuaje cabinets (brown label) are far superior to the Opus X and the GOF--and at half the price. And if you really want an incredible "cost to taste" ratio, for my money you can't beat the Oliva Servies V torpedo (hell, you can get 4 Vs for the price of one Opus X or GOF), which to my palate is probably the equal of Opus X (although not in construction). Leon Jimenes Bellicoso and Felipe Gregorio Power (not the prettiest cigar, but a very good smoke) are also winners. I know, I know... "Well duh." |

Re: God of Fire
You have to light these with a 100 bill to really apreciate its rich taste....
Actually I've only smoked a couple GOF, long time ago, I do remember it was a solid cigar very nice construction, and it was a good smoke... but I also remember thinking this is an expensive cigar. |
