Personally; I would suggest the ECCJ for a cigar magazine. CA is cool since I do play golf and they have good articles, but way too much advertising. If anything just browse through for their ratings for comparisons sake. Acronym info: ECCJ stands for European Cigar Cult Journal. Peace.

FYI....if you happen to have any extra American Airline miles....
you can cash in 400 for a subscription.....that is how I snagged mine.

ps
this also might help you avoid losing all of your miles......
"AAdvantage members must have mileage earning or redeeming activity once every 18 months in order to retain their miles."

Very good tip. I went ahead on picked up on this one.

Thank you very much and I will now get a subscription!

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I actually used American miles to get a subscription, but I think it has finished. I like to bring them on plane flights as it is easy reading.

I have noticed the last couple of issues have had a lot of ads for alcohol, I wonder if those are the only companies that can afford to advertise in this economy.

For me, typically the last 10 pages or so between the reviews and the pictures is the best part of the entire magazine. This is the only part where they actually really talk about cigars and have interviews.

The last thing I want to read about is Marvin playing golf. Drives me %@&$% nuts!

Although the last issue had an interesting article on ultimatebet and a superuser account that could see hole cards in real-time. Totally messed up.

I, for one, do...................LOL 20 buck for ads...no way, overpriced, purdy pikcherz tho.

If I drove an Aston Martin, wore a Rolex had $300 bottles of scotch and wine in my "cellar" and a walk in humi stocked with Opus X. THEN I would enjoy CA.

That's why Puff.com is gonna rock, Cigar info, reviews and entertainment for everyday guys like us. I can't wait for the launch.

Funny, I just picked up my first one yesterday. Looks like mostly all fluff and little substance.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

Picked up my first CA magazine recently as well. I enjoyed it. However I wouldn't be subscribing because the price they charge Canucks for a subscription is virtually the same as buying at a store, only buying one at a time i can pick and choose which i want.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

Personally I enjoy Cigar Magazine.

I usually swing by a client that subscribes to CA and "borrow" their copy, not worth the price for the 10 pages of reviews (not even reviews, just ratings really).

A much better magazine for non-gazillionaires, IMO.

This is how I got my first subscription. I let the renewal pass. I can't afford the shoes, watches, cars, vacations, golf courses, and toys they review. Or maybe a better way to put it is that I'd rather spend my money on cigars than the stuff they push. There are very few NC reviews I agree with and can't comment on CC reviews since I haven't had one. If your looking for cigar info then you're better off going another direction. If you're looking to be a hedonist then go for it.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I bought a subscription via Amazon. I like the pretty pictures of stuff I can't afford, but I can't say I'll re-up when my year is out. The cigar reviews are worthless, IMO.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I also received my first subscription by utilizing airline miles and continue to renew. I guess I'm the odd man out here as I feel $20 isn't bad for the magazine. I also think it's the most recognizeable cigar mag outside of the true cigar enthusiast network who know more about Cigar Magazine, Smoke, etc. Also the articles they run on celebrities and big shots are pretty interesting (like Richard Branson and Arnon Milchan). I take their reviews with a grain of salt (or toasty almond) but it's a good way to learn of what's out there, the more information I have about something the better I feel.
Either way I've smoked a fine stick worth almost a year's subscription so I guess it's all relative.
