All us Canucks picking up their first issue of CA in the last day or two! I bought mine at a 7-11 on a whim. I agree with some of the others here... nice pictures, interesting interviews, but very light on discussion or reviews of cigars and the target demographic is waaaay too high for me.

Given the weight that a review by CA carries for cigar manufacturers, the review content for each cigar is abysmal. A little two sentence blurb and some stats are all you get. They seem to review quite a few cigars, which is nice, but I would like a longer paragraph (or a whole page) for each cigar as I just don't get satisfaction from the "reader's digest" version of a cigar review.

I'll have to pop into a Chapters to see if they sell anything else... what else have Canadians seen sold on magazine racks here?

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I picked one up last week just to see what the hype was about. It is an interesting read, but to be honest, I do not personally think it is worth a subscription. I will just take the reviews and recommendations from here, it has not led me astray yet .

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I plan to pick up the December issue, because it features Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, a true cigar lover (he favors Padrons). He mentioned the interview at a gathering at my neighborhood B&M (Hemingway's, to give them a deserved plug). Goodman said that they normally spend about three hours with the person they interview, but they spent the better part of a week with him. I was in there today, and the owner told me that they are going to have a cigar gathering with Goodman for one of the Thursday night football games (date yet to be set). I will buy a copy and have hizzoner sign it for me. As for subscribing, probably not.

The article on Oscar Goodman was VERY interesting, as was the Rocco Mediate and Daniel Craig interviews. I feel the interviews in C.A. are worth the small price of $20.

Jon you seem to be having a bit of light hearted fun poking at the Cigar Aficionado Magazine lifestyle Agenda

Yet the CA Lifestyle that is put forth in their magazine is hauntingly familiar to the following.

Quote:
Puff Lifestyle
Like the perfect cigar, the smoker’s lifestyle is a rich and well-blended mixture of the all the finest ingredients. At Puff Lifestyle, we discuss the finer things in life: the most luxurious hotels, the finest wines, 5-star dining, the hottest wheels, insane watches, really cool lighters, hand carved cedar humidors, and of course – the best cigars. Come, live the life of a true cigar connoisseur. Puff Lifestyle – the sky is the limit.

It all seems so "exclusive" and the BOTL agenda has always been inclusive. I am disappointed with where this has gone.

I sincerely hope that you are happy.

I enjoy it and think it is worth it. Chalk it up to money out of the entertainment fund. I do think the reviews are biased however, generally if they say it's a good cigar, generally it is.

Well if you pick up 3 or 4 of them a year you already paid for the subscription. Personnaly i think they are worth looking at on the $hitter. Lots of ads, but there are some good articles.

I let mine lapse about 2 years ago. The person they are advertising to is not me or any of my friends.

There are many better cigar magazines out there.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I really enjoy CA. The first time I ever bought it was just because I couldn't find any other cigar mags and to be honest, I was kinda pissed about how much of the magazine was about things I'll probably never be able to go do. When I ran into a night where I was in town and had planned to stop for a cup of coffee and a smoke but forgot a book, I was forced to read the articles and realized how interesting some of them were (bucketlist, cars).
Smoke is also a good mag but I'd have a hard time picking between the 2.

I completely agree. I don't know who puts those ratings on the cigars, but their taste is about 180 deg. from mine.

The more money you spend in advertising, the better your rankings. See Casa Magna
