Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

i've been a subscriber for years. It's well worth it. They always have intersting articles on different cigar makers and such. Also a good way to find a new cigar to add to your collection. Cheers!

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscriptio

Most of the articles are aimed at those who need not worry about the subscription price...or any other money worries for that matter....and the reviews are biased towards their advertisers, IMO. I will glance through it for free at my local B&M, but I let my subscription lapse long ago.

I thumb through it.... I only look at the reviews... just to see whats new if anything. Lots of pretty glossy pictures of cigars.... which isnt a bad thing, but thats about it. I've had a subscription for three years. Probably wont renew.

I like it. For some reason, it comes here at work and I snatch it (well, because I think I'm really the only one here who's got a passion for cigars). I'm not sure who subscribed because it comes to the company (no individual name and nobody claims it) but I'll take it! I enjoy the articles, pics, reviews when I'm in the can.

Not if you want a cigar magazine. Why? Only 12% cigar content. Check this comparison out. http://www.stogiefresh.com/journal/C...mparisons.html

They have nice pictures in it. I usually read one or two articles, but the rest is geared toward people who can afford their own fleet of Leer jets. And golfers (I'm not a golfer). I wouldn't waste money on a subscription.

FYI....if you happen to have any extra American Airline miles....
you can cash in 400 for a subscription.....that is how I snagged mine.

ps
this also might help you avoid losing all of your miles......

I have a current subscription. The other day I received the typical letter to renew. But this letter had a postcard inside that had a cool promo: if you subscribed, they would send a year for free to a friend that you named. I jumped on it.

The magazine ok for cigars; you get to see some interesting brands. The interviews are well done but sometimes the tres-riche lifestyle articles become just plain dumb. Going to the Big Smoke, you see all walks of life there..not the playboys that it would appear the articles are geared for. But there has to be a market for it or they wouldn't publish it.

Re: Cigar Aficionado Magazine subscription

I think it's worth it in the same way car magazines are 'worth it'. As you long as you go into it with your eyes open. Much like car mags, CA is driven by advertising. Motor Trend likes BMWs because they advertise a lot...CA likes certain cigars for the same reason.

I enjoy the coverage of cuban cigars and some of the writing (non-cigar related usually) is quite good. Their coverage of the cigar industry is usually interesting if not 'must know' stuff. I enjoy the magazine.

No truer words spoken in this thread!

If you were looking for a magazine that would give you honest cigar information...CA is not it! But if you want to know where to buy a custom made pair of shoes while visiting Geneva, you're in luck.

It used to be back in the day, but not anymore.

Try 'Smoke' if you want print media.
