Re: Questions for Kaizad Hansotia of Gurkha

Wiki says.....

Gurkhas are best known for their history of bravery and strength in the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas and the Indian Army's Gorkha regiments. The Gurkhas were designated by British officials as a "Martial Race". "Martial Race" was a designation created by officials of British India to describe "races" (peoples) that were thought to be naturally warlike and aggressive in battle, and to possess qualities like courage, loyalty, self sufficiency, physical strength, resilience, orderliness, the ability to work hard for long periods of time, fighting tenacity and military strategy. The British recruited heavily from these Martial Races for service in the colonial army.

Fascinating stuff, really.
One of the reasons I tried them to begin with, having a small knowledge of the Gurkha.

Re: Questions for Kaizad Hansotia of Gurkha

Well, like i said before, i believe that there is more to a cigar than the experience of smoking it.

I have noted before that the things i love about cigars (apart from the flavor taste) are...

1. the aroma, how does it smell sitting next to your cheek giving off a nice subtle heat.
2. appearance and construction - does the cigar feel nice and firm (but not hard). Does it have a nice even round to it? is the cap cleanly cut and applied?
3. the band - The cigar band can tell you alot abotu the people behind the cigar... is it a heritage-esque band like the Macanudo 1968 that gives off a sophisticated appearance? or is it a multi colored bright band like a taboo as to give off a more "reachable by all" feel?
4. And Finally, the namesake and advertising - the strength behind a companies marketing motive are scarily powerful combined with stories that have a consumer buy in if the tactics and imagry are in tune!

For me, it's all about flavor.

Re: Questions for Kaizad Hansotia of Gurkha

Question 1: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll tootsie pop?

Question 2: Does the Sultan of Brunei really have you make cigars for him?

Adding.. more than just that once? And, was it a gift or did he actually pay for them?

Serious question: Do other manufacturers roll your cigars now or is it still Torano for all the various creations?

Have they considered making a smaller band for their cigars? It seems like a waste of perfectly good trees to me...

How long in general does it take him to create a new blend? What are his criteria for determining a blend is market ready? How many new blends is he working on at any given time? What are the current top five best selling lines or specific vitolas? What are the longitundinal/all time top five best selling lines or specific vitolas? It will be interesting to learn a little about his process.

Why not, what's one more blend when you already make 100s.

And I am sure the price will be geared towards the "average Joe" also.
