The most important part of a cigar

In your opinion, what's the most important part of a cigar. Is it taste, appearance, the way it feels, aroma, even burn, etc.? I like a cigar that draws nicely and has a good taste.

I want it all - nice appearance, good draw, great flavor, Lots of smoke, good burn (I hate to have to keep touching up a cigar), good aroma.

I'd agree with this, but add that different wrappers seem to appeal to different smokers.

For example, my taste buds are turned on by the maduros and oscuros, and I actually find them "sweet." Yet, I have friends who find the darker wrappers objectionable, and prefer the candelas, claros or naturals. The only thing we have in common is a mutual hatred for brussels sprouts.

For me they are in this order:

1. Taste . . . if this is bad who cares how good it looks or smells

2. Aroma (pre-light and during smoking). . . my old secretary used to say this about bad cigars, "It smells like Zoo."

3. Appearance . . . Although I have had some veiny and off colored smokes that tasted adn smelled wonderful it definately was a detractor from the experience.

Re: The most important part of a cigar

I would say taste. Usually all the other things affect taste - if the draw is too tight it doesn't taste good. If it doesn't produce enough smoke, you don't taste it that much. If the burn is awful it may taste harsh or funny...
That is, most things that can go wrong will ultimately affect the taste.

I too like to have it all, which produces the complete smoking experience. That said, I've smoked some fine ugly looking cigars and some horrible perfect looking cigars. If the cigar looks perfect but I have to pull on it until my ears pop, not really getting me to where I need to be

Re: The most important part of a cigar

To be truthful, the experience. I'd rather smoke a decent cigar with friends on a good night than a great cigar alone on a bad night. One of the most important things, to me, about the greatest part of a cigar, is whether or not I have positive memories tied to it.

I think its interesting how different people are. To me, the best cigar is all by myself, sitting and relaxing with no one else around.

1st - taste
2nd - draw (I hate a draw so firm I have to get my crowns reglued down)
3rd - draw (If the cigar is plugged, it really irritates me)

For me its the experience. The sum off all the characteristics: aroma, taste, tactile sensation, social aspect, etc..

Re: The most important part of a cigar

It's like wine and sex. It's the whole experience that makes the cigar enjoyable.

Course than again a fat girl and unicycle are both fun to ride until your finds see you on it.
