If smoking were allowed, I'd keep smoking

It's either a smoking section, or it's not. If the establishment has designated this as a smoking section, then the onus is on the ladies to move. But I would have asked the establishment and left the decision to them.

"Excuse me ladies, I will ask the management if smoking is allowed on the patio. If not, I will be happy to put out my cigar."

If the restaurant management allows smoking in that area, their issue would be with restaurant policy, not the smokers.

One night a friend of mine and I were in a very nice cigar friendly club. I was smoking an Opus X Forbidden and my friend Rico was smoking a Padron Anniversario 1926. Two wonderful cigars. As we were enjoying our sticks and listened to the music a very nice woman came over to our table. She said that she and her friend did not like the smoke from our cigars and offered us five dollars each to "get rid of those cigars". We didn't have the heart to tell her how much the cigars cost so we moved to another table on the other side and continued loving the best of the best.

Oh Well.

Better to move and enjoy one's cigar than to offend the cigarette smoker I guess.

Some great replies here (Madurolover...great quote, too. First song I ever learned how to play on guitar, but I digress). I honestly can't say I've had any bad experiences smoking in public, but then I'm sure my cigars smell better than yours.

Haha I was there shooting video of Tabacalera Fernandez for about 5 days. I smoked it all before I got home.

So here is what we did. Actually since it was a lady and she asked all of us we actually put the cigars out. She was not mean and we had been smoking all day long anyway and it was time to eat. We were amongst good friends so we did not let it ruin our lunch.

NOW as soon as everyone finished we all forgot about the women and lite up cigars not even thinking about it. The women then dealt with the smoke until the check came and we all said our goodbyes to each other and left.

I personally would have done as the lady asked. Don't assume because they produce something that everyone loves it. I have a ex brother in law that's from Hawaii and can't stand Pineapple. But that's just me.

Remember, most people think cigars stink and that people who smoke them are the same way. But if you're curteous and respectfull you'll be amazed how those conceptions may change.

On one hand, you have the right to enjoy the cigar, especially if you are in the smoking section.

On the other, we have to understand just how funky some of these sticks we smoke are. Allergies/low tolerance to smoke and tobacco are pretty common. For many people, its not just annoying when someone smokes around them. It is painful and dangerous.

For example, I have elderly relatives who can't be around heavy smokers when they are enjoying their tobacco, because it exacerbates their medical conditons. They don't have anything against smoking, or tobacco. They just can't do it. Though, they simply leave without bothering someone if it becomes a problem.

The lady had the courage to ask you, very politely. There is no harm in that. I would have put it out or moved. But really, since you were in the smoking section, I doubt there was any serious issue at hand.
