In Praise of a Cheap Cigar

Hey I can be as finicky and particular as the next guy. I love the high-end, great constructed cigar. I love the Davidoffs, the Ashton Cabinets, the Cuban Bolivars (I have 5 that were gifted). Recently, in Cozumel, I smoked 3 Cohiba Esplendidos . . . awesome! I also love the fancy cigars, the box-pressed beauties that are a joy to hold and to smoke. The ERDM Rectangulare comes to mind, as does the CAO Extreme. Yes I can be as particular as the next. Recently, however, I stumbled across a cigar called 59 Throwouts, made by Fuente/Newman. This is a bundled, non-banded, cigar. It is rustic, with a matte-like wrapper, with some discoloration and protruding veins. It does not have the feel in the hand as does, say, a Romeo & Julieta Reserva Real. Yet it is, perhaps, the most consistent cigar I have ever smoked. I have now smoked over 200 of these, and everyone smokes like the one before (perfect draw, even burn, with a thin carbon ring and an excellent simmer). The flavaroma (flavor and aroma) is pleasant and apprehendable. This is a cigar capable of being enjoyed everytime (I smoke these in the morning with my coffee). And they are dirt cheap, but I would now probably buy them anyway. It is not a powerhouse cigar; it does not have a strong ligero base, and it will not meet the strong nicotine needs of many cigar smokers. But I tip my hat to this humble rustic cigar . . . a cigar for the rest of us.

Re: In Praise of a Cheap Cigar

I have tried this cigar and to be it is a lot like a Philly Blunt so I personally don't like them but i have my fav cheap cigar and I love a good deal anyday I am glad you like them they are like 50 cents a stick so in total you have spent 100 bucks to smoke 200 cigars I say GREAT. I like Fumas I am currently in love with Gran Habano Corojo fumas I punch thoes puppies (so the loose filler doesnt come out in my room) and they are great my fav Fumas arent soo cheap but good 24 for $75 Tatujae P1s Great. but thats more like 3 bucks a stick. cheaper than that i go for RP Factory Selects 20 for $40 and they taste juct like there $120 ccouterparts Seconds and Fumas are the best! everyone should find a good fuma or second they like and will find they smoke them more than anything else.

Hmm, I haven't heard that comparison but I haven't smoked a Philly Blunt since I was 16, maybe I'll have to pick 1 up and check. We do sell a ton of the Factory Throw-out 59's, it is what it is, a cheap, unoffensive, smokable cigar, but I can see why it is not everybody's cup o' tea.

I've smoked a ton of 59's and HB 10 and 54 also. There is no comparison to phillies. A cheap fillin, yard gar, something you can drop in the pool or mud and dont miss. I'm giving lonsdale a bump for admitting he smokes 59's.

Re: In Praise of a Cheap Cigar

Those RP seconds are one of the best that I have ever smoked. This last week I got a deal on La Aurora 2nds on the Devil site. Come spring time I am going to see if I got taken or not. ( I always buy in the winter, and rest till spring, that way you know for sure they are well rested for your climate)

I agree 110% with you,,,,,I win alot of the RP seconds, A & B on C Bid and they age well and taste just like the originals. I usually get them for about $30 a bundle when I win and you won't be dissapointed. I use to buy RP quite a bit and just tried the seconds a couple years back,,,won't ever purchase the originals again as I save about $80.

Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. I've been smoking the 92 and Fusion torpedo 2nds, and like them enough that I bid on a bundle of X-out C's just on reputation alone. They should be here on Monday. Woot!

I'm a firm believer that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a quality cigar. Some really affordable smokes that I like are Flor de Oliva, El Credito, and Sancho Panza.

Its always great when you can find a cheap ass cigar that you can enjoy. I like you have a simiar situation but i smoke Blender's Golds, which are a private label and I really enjoy them. There's no spice, depth of flavor, or any of that shit but just a genuinely good tobacco taste, mild strength, even burn, and solid construction. Perfect for a daily cigar, at 15.00 for a bundle of 10

The majority of the time, I dont have to be blown away with flavors or tones in a cigar, as lone as the findamentals (Consistent taste, burn, construction) are there, I'm happy
