Royal Jamaica
Haven't heard much talk about these, and they are hard to find at my local B&M anymore. I used to smoke these when I was in high school (mostly because they were medium priced, at least to a high school kid, and they came in really cool metal tubes!). Anyone out here smoke them regularly, and if someone could give me a little background on the cigars themselves (company, how they are made, what kind of tobacco), that would be awesome! Also, who do you buy them from!
Cheers! |

Re: Royal Jamaica
I just did a quick search and it looks like JR Cigars carries these. They even have them in the tubes like you were talking about. I had never seen those tubes before. I guess I have never read much on them because I haven't heard of this Bethune stuff before. Maybe some of our fellow B/SOTLs could tell us what that is all about. Here is the link that I found.

Re: Royal Jamaica
The old RJ blend was a mild to medium bodied cigar, with a very interesting nose, due to the use of bethune in production.
Here is another link, with some good RJ history... http://en.allexperts.com/q/Cigars-21...ica-cigars.htm

Re: Royal Jamaica
These are on my "to try" list. The owner of one B&M I went to said that some people like these even better than the Montecristos (habanos up here). This was the Royal Jamaica Gold, specifically, not the non-Gold, which I don't believe I've ever seen.

Re: Royal Jamaica
I got a couple of these in a sampler about a month ago. I thought they were pretty good...mild to medium like previously mentioned. If I recall you can purchase them from Famous too, however, they are wrapped in gold foil not tubes (at least the ones I received). Thought I remember reading something about how these were really popular back in the eighties but a hurricane wiped out the plantation in Jamaica. Now they're grown from Jamaican seed elsewhere with a hodgepodge of filler, wrapper and binder. I think Famous has some kind of write up on them. Good luck.

Re: Royal Jamaica
I bought a 5ver of the Gold a few months back. Fired up the first one a few weeks ago, not my things. I'll list the other 4 up for sell along with several other small groups of cigars.

Re: Royal Jamaica
I bought a box about a year ago and they are a good smoke when I am out doing the yard or just out riding the motorcycle.
