Re: newbie: Is it normal to not enjoy the last 1-2'' of a cigar?
Maybe I am looking at this all wrong, I figured the "last third" was when it started to get more intense. I was under the impression that I enjoyed that part of the cigar. In fact, I tend to smoke my cigars fairly fast (2 draws a minute), and I ultranub every cigar I have had since getting serious about this. To the extent that I even use oversized surgical forceps (like a giant roach clip) to aid me getting down to the last half to quarter inch.
Mind you, I have been pretty spoiled in my cigar selection. So far I have pretty much only smoked premium habana brands. So, maybe I am starting from a different place to begin with. But, I am going to have to re-evaluation whether I am enjoying that last 1.5 inches that I have been smoking. Does this adjust where the thirds begin and end? Probably I will decide that I actually still do enjoy that last bit of the cigar. Maybe I will even find some asthmatic's aerochamber to concentrate and cool the smoke before I draw it in.... Hehe, probably not Cheers Cyanide |

You know what I find is that I'm probably like you with the 2-draw/minute rate for fear that the sucker will go out on me. If I don't, my experience has been that it does, in fact, go out. |

I don't want to come off as a know-it-all on this thread, because I don't profess to know much, but if you have to puff on it that often to keep it lit, I think your smokes are too wet. I would imagine if you combine wet smokes with fast smoking, you are going to get that harsh taste more quickly than if you smoked drier sticks more slowly. Just my ![]() |

Smoke it until you enjoy it.

yeah i'd have to agree with everyone who has said put it down when you start getting annoyed by the tar taste. Too many times have I tried to keep going, with too much angst. That being said, there's worth in purging a bunch of times to try and revive the remaining bit.

I think it'a more than just the stick... My bro-in-law and I have the same preferences and we smoke mostly Cubans. He tosses them when 2/3 smoked and sometimes just half. I smoke them till they can barely be held.
It can make a grown man cry to see him waste so much cigar but he simply claims to be satisfied and is "done" Makes sense as the Siglo I is his fave but he also likes the VI... I hate seeing him toss those! He claims an acidic taste. I think they get sweeter towards the end. Neither of us are cigarette smokes (not for 10 years or so) so I'm not sure the diff. except our palates? I find also enjoy good non-Cubans to the same extent. I've had some fakes and some poorer quality smokes that do in fact taste worse towards the end. As well, by forcing the draw I find that they can tend to get more acidic at the end. My faves like Siglo III are wonderful to the very end while some larger (longer ones) like the Monte A are still good but I simply tire at the end of such a big smoke. Lx |

I was the op, and I guess it all depends on mood, cigar, and drink. I'm two stiff white russians into a CAO LX2, and I'm about to burn my fingers.. I don't want this bad boy to end

My absolute favorite part of a good sick is that last 3rd. I love the amount of flavor, harshness and heat. I think that you know it is a good smoke when you get to the end and you are wanting more right now. But you spark up a new stick and move on leaving the carcass of a stick that served it's purpose of pleasing the puffer.
