Cool River Cafe in Denver

Any BOTLs out in the Rockies know of this place? I just stumbled upon it while doing an internet search for something or other cigar-related...

cool looking place and cigar-friendly. but, go check the prices on their cigar menu. can they be serious??? or, if anyone is in the know - are these prices for multiple cigars or what? criminey!

We have one of these in Austin. I was not aware they were a chain. And they do the Steak, Scotch and Stoggie night once a week. Never been there, but from what I understand they are very pricy.

And wow " Arturo Fuente Hemingway “Work of Art” $ 50.00 "

DANG.

Never been there. Looks cool, but might want to grab some Taco Bell before going, and bring your own stash of cigars.

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

Got that beat. I'm in Orlando on business and went to the Corona Cigar Co. last night. They've got some pre-embargo sticks going for $250 EACH!!! One box costs $11,000 for the box. They've got some FFOX for $32 and their Padron 1926 Pyramide was $24. Needless to say I went a little cheaper. Great place to smoke though: great music, good beer, and great atmosphere. A place to check out definitely.

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

Check out the Opus pricing....

http://www.coolrivercafe.com/Denver/...cigar_menu.htm

I will say I understand there concept with the high prices. They figure if you come there you can afford the prices. One of those "if you have to ask price then you cant afford it" type thing.

Or a man goes to the Rolls Royce dealership and ask "what type of gas milage does it get?"

Looks like a very nice place and would love to check it out next time I am in Denver. RJT

It could be the coolest place in the world to smoke, but with those kind of prices, they will NEVER get my patronage.. thats just pure rape.

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

Any place that has a cognac lounge and describes itself as an upscale steakhouse is gonna be "ritzy"

This is not what you'd call a B&M cigar shop. It's an upscale restauraunt that happens to sell cigars. I bet most of the cigars bought there are bought on the company expense account (why do you think they have banquet rooms?)

I can hardly throw stones. I bought a $5 Macanudo for $10 to go with my $7 martini at one of our local restaurants simply because I had a craving for a cigar and didn't come prepared (didn't have the stones to sneak a flask either ) I've also paid $5 for fifty cents worth of popcorn at the movies.

I totally understand that.. Im sure there are a lot of people buying these cigars on thier expense accounts... That being said.. I still wouldn't be buying there.

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

Everyone should keep this in perspective...

For one, they are going to be a VERY LOW VOLUME reseller so they are going to be buying at the worst of wholesale prices IF they are getting wholesale at all.

They are an upscale place to spend you time and money... try to remember that you might be comparing their prices as if you were buying them online or at the local B & M... this compares like a like having diner at a greasy spoon in downtown Oakland or a five start in Monterey or Sausalito...

Why do they charge what they do? Because it cost more to do business in the style they promote and most importantly why do they charge it?

because they can!!! and if you owned a small business like it you would most likely do the same.

Having been a small business owner for a long time... I have learned to be careful before casting stones over prices or particular rules or practices. Small independent businesses (including small chains) are the lowest on the food chain and are the highest on the turnover/failure in the business world... I might decide I am unable to afford something at a particular place but I do not assume the prices are out of line... I have worn shoes like theirs and walked a few miles in them and most people wearing them are not getting rich... they are usually just getting by like the rest of us.

The best part is... if someone is making good money at a place that is cool (and this place sounds VERY COOL) then I WANT THEM TO BE PROFITABLE so they will stay open so I can continue to enjoy the place

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

I still hate paying $8 for a martini. Wait. No i don't. Some of the nicest evenings of my life envolved $8 martinis and $6 pieces of pie.

I bet this place in Denver would be super cool to visit. I'd just remember to bring my own cigar and share that piece of pie.

Re: Cool River Cafe in Denver

Just back from Vegas and a stop by Casa Fuente. Their prices are similar and I expected that. Went for the experience, not the gars - but I did pick up a few corona gorda @ $18 a pop.
