Traveling to Mexico
We are going down for vacation in February. What are the rules for taking down my own Stogie's? Lighters, I doubt I can take a good one, can I pack anything?
Thanks, Vin |

Re: Traveling to Mexico
No limit on smokes that I am aware of. I would just recommend carrying them on with you. They are handled more gently and you don't run the risk of showing up at your destination and dealing with lost luggage AND lost cigars.
As for lighters, there is some DOT approved container that I believe you can pack an empty torch lighter in. Then you have to buy butane in Mexico. Or you can carry on a bic lighter. I think that is your better option. A bic is a butane lighter and works pretty well for a weeks vacation. And you don't run a big risk if someone at the TSA doesn't know the rules and makes you discard it...they are available everywhere. Just my ![]() |

I didn't even check into this, as I planned to liberally supply myself with Cubans after arrival. The information is good to have. You can only buy so many Cohibas without breaking the vacation budget.

Re: Traveling to Mexico
Good luck finding real "Havanas" in Mexico. Duty Free at the airport might be your safest bet. Lots of street people willing to sell $5 Cohibas. Best to bring your own smoking material or shop for real smokes rather than Mexican-made Havanas.
I use the Colibri TranzPak and take 3 or 4 of them, each loaded with a large tank $10 triple flame torch. Last year when we travelled, I made the mistake of packing my weeks worth of cigars in the luggage. It was not on the conveyor belt at the airport. Luckily it arrived 24 hours later. This year they go in my carry-on. Best of luck South of the Border ![]() |

Re: Traveling to Mexico
Thanks for the information, the last time we went, I wasn't as big of cigar smoker. I did make it to town to a large B&M and bought a couple of what was sold as Cubans. I only waited a day to have them dry out a bit, and I never got a good smoke out of either one I bought. This time, I'll hit the shop early and let the settle for a few days before I try them.

Re: Traveling to Mexico
Depends where you are going in Mexico. Puerto vallarta, Cancun, Playa del carmen, Cabo, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Tijuana, Hermosillo, Monterey or Puerto Penasco. Each one of those city has a LCDH where you are 100% sure to get the real deal. Anywhere else and you are most likely getting fakes. Take cigar cutter and an empty butane lighter and buy Butane at any of these LCDH. Have fun and enjoy

Re: Traveling to Mexico
Be careful where you buy your stogies in Mexico. Lots of people will sell you "cubans". Try to go to big retailers.
