Actually... When I typed "Keep me out of this", I meant "I've said too much already." But I'll embellish on what I can say..

Famous has had these cigars available since around mid-2005.
They're made by a very respected manufacturer in Nicaragua.
They aren't seconds of anything.
N3K's are one of the most talked about cigars on all the boards.
They're tasty as hell.
Demand is high and supplies are usually limited.
The factory don't make 'em round.

With all that said, you can draw your own conclusions.

Yes it's made by Olivia, and it was the "X" they sold or were planning to sell.

Re: Famous Nic 3000 Question

Hi Folks,

This is my first post here on Club Stogie. I have been smoking cigars on a daily basis for 25 years. I'm not an expert in anything, but when it comes to cigars, I know what I like. The FSS Nic 3000 are and always have been made by Oliva. When they originally came into FSS, they were thought to be the left overs of the EO/Oliva brand called Series X. As far as I know, Series X had to be removed from the market due to a potential legal issue with another major manufacturer who uses an X in their most famous cigar. Draw your own conclusions as to who that might be. This is of course, pure speculation on my part, but that was what I heard. Sort of makes sense, otherwise I can't come up with a logical reason why they would be suddenly removed from a market that seemed to be going ga-ga for them?
I bought and smoked my way through several boxes of Series X while they were still available. I then bought several bundles of the FSS Nic 3000's. After smoking several side by side I came up with this conclusion. To my humble taste buds they were pretty much the exact same cigar. They looked the same, tasted the same, and were the exact same sizes. Since the original load of FSS Nic 3000's sold out, their have been numerous subsequent releases from Oliva on the brand. While I find that they have changed a bit from the initial release, overall, they remain a really well made and tasty smoke.
I was quite a hog with the Nic 3000's and probably bought and smoked in excess of 100 bundles of them since they have been on the market. I don't smoke them too often these days, as there are other things currently on the market that I enjoy. That being said, I always keep a few bundles around. They are not seconds of anything and never have been. As far as the blend, IIRC, they are a mostly Nic blend with an ECU Habano wrapper and obviously, a fair amount of ligero. There was a time about 14 or 15 months ago when I was experiencing "popping and splitting" wrappers which seemed to originate at the binder. Thankfully, that problem did not last long at all.

I hope no one takes this post the wrong way. I am not trying to be a know it all by any means. I did do a lot of research on this cigar because I was so blown away by it.

Thanks

TonyToro

PS Every once in while I get one of these that sneaks up on me and is a true nic bomb. Be careful! :>)

Re: Famous Nic 3000 Question

I smoked these for at least the last 3 -4 years and they have always had some press. The new ones are more pressed than the old ones. The old ones were a little more oval, but never I have seen these in the round!

Thanks for the excellent insight into the N3K. I still haven't ordered any, but think I might have to break that streak after work today.

Try some Oliva O series, or maybe some of the G. The Famous 3000's definitely have that Oliva taste, the O's are very similar IMO. They come round, and you can find them pretty cheap, I think someone is selling 2nds too.

I've found the latest batch, after having rested for a few months, to be almost as good as the originals. Lots of coco/java and a solid smoke. I can't help thinking of a candy bar with the oval box press shape on these.

Re: Famous Nic 3000 Question

I just got a 5 pack of these in yesterday that I jumped on when Famous had the Oliva 6 pack sampler on Cigarmonster last week. I'll let these rest for a week or two and then fire one up. They look pretty tasty, a pretty squished robusto. I hope these live up to the hype!

Re: Famous Nic 3000 Question

The FSS N3K is one tasty cigar. I've smoke quite a few bundles myself and have never been dissapointed.

I also have NOT noticed all that much difference in the quality/taste over time though admitedly I haven't been smoking much in the past half year.
