Can you catch a cold from a cigar?

I searched to see if this was on the site anywhere but I could not find anything.

I was sitting here yesterday sick as a dog wanting to smoke a cigar and I started thinking about germs. Is it possible for the person rolling the cigar to be sick and to pass the germs onto the cigar and then onto the consumer? Am I over thinking here? I just figured after the cigars are rolled they are kept at optimum conditions for germs. Anybody have any thoughts?

Nope...the average cold/flu germ can only survive outside the human body anywhere from a few seconds to 48 hours depending on the strain. No Worries!

See that is why I asked this. I have read conflicting reports on this saying that some germs can last for years inside a home due to the proper conditions. Thanks and I hope you're right.

I wouldn't worry about it. Extremely unlikely.

Most of those viruses enter via breathing through the nose or via the eyes (conjunctiva) so those chances are pretty slim in the sceario you are describing ...

I'll bet lighting the germs on fire would probably be a good way to destroy them

I dunno...I've heard that certain viruses can lie dormant for several hundred years in burial sites and become reactivated when exposed to fresh air and water...but I could be wrong...

Re: Can you catch a cold from a cigar?

I was wondering this myself, i have been sick for 3 weeks, on antibiotics for 10 days and nothing is happening My doctor said that the germ shouldn't be able to live that long but noone seems to truly know.

If you have a cold/flu and your doctor gave you antibiotics, you need to find a new doctor.

Ditto this which is why our strains of anti biotics are becoming ineffective. Colds and flu should not be treated with anti biotics but rather with OTC drugs, fluids, and rest and maybe a hot toddy every night.

It started as a cold and then turned into a sinus infection he said.

Re: Can you catch a cold from a cigar?

I'd have to take the opposite point. While I recognize that many doctors over-prescribe antibiotics leading to resistant strains, for the person who actually NEEDS antibiotics, it could literally be life saving.
