No more Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970?
I heard that the Casa Magna is intended to replace the JdN Antano 1970.
I'm not sure if it was online or in CA. I know Drew Estates became the new distributor of JdN earlier this year and the prices increased. But is the Antano gone for good? Have they stopped production yet? I really like this cigar...so I'd better stock up now if this is the case. |

Re: No more Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970?
A quick google search found the following from texcigars.com:
Casa MagnaThe Casa Magna line of cigars is the apotheosis of two of the greatest minds in the cigar industry. Manuel Quesada and Nestor Plascencia have created this cigar to replace the Joya de Nicaragua Antaņo 1970. The Casa Magna Robusto was rated a 92 in Cigar Insider. This Nicaraguan puro is a medium-full bodied joy to smoke. Casa Magna is rolled in Nestor Plascencia's Segovia factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. The oily Colorado wrapper finishes off the Nicaraguan binder and filler exquisitely. Hints of cocoa, coffee, and sweet cedar are presented by this very smooth smoke. Available in Belicoso, Gran Toro, Robusto, and Torito sizes the Casa Magna is a must try cigar. I dug around a little bit though and it looks like the Casa Magna was requested by JdN's former distributor to replace the Antano on their stock list. In other words SAG Imports (the former distributor of the Antano, owned by Manuel Quesada) wanted something to fill the space left by losing the Antano to Drew Estates and had the Casa Magna made. This makes it appear that both will stay on the market. I really hope that this is the case as I really like the Antano, especially at sub $70 per box. Do a google search with the words "Casa Magna antono" and you'll find the conversation that leads me to think both are going to stay around on the first page of results.

Re: No more Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970?
Well, I'll be buying a bunch more boxes of this until they are gone. I recently had one of the Casa Magna's. Honestly, I wasn't impressed even slightly. I'm not a huge fan of Drew Estates either. I guess I never got over the patchuli oil infused sticks he produced during the boom.
Crying shame, as the JdN Antano 1970's line has produced some really outstanding smokes IMO. That's the cigar biz though! ![]() |

The JdN Antano 1970 blend is amazing. I hope Drew Estates keeps it around.

Re: No more Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970?
Joya de Nicaragua is still being made. SAG the company that sells/imports Fonseca etc got dropped by Joya's factory.
Here is the real BS that has happened. Joya de Nicaragua wasn't selling enough SAG was handing out to 10% off to small retailers and stuff was always on backorder but it was always shipped within a few weeks Then Drew Estate Took over Drew Estate started importing large quantitys of Joyas During the RTDA Drew Estate increased Joyas price by 25% while telling retailers they could get 20% off by ordering 20 boxes meanwhile withholding any information about a price increase. The huge wholesalers that Drew Estate is "tight" with are selling Joyas at the old FSP (Factory Selling Price) their margins are anywhere from 30-20% So Drew Estate hasn't looked up the definition of "burning bridges" LOL Many people wont take the Joyas on again because of this. |
