Re: Wanting input for new humidor please
Since you are under new construction or able to add a small closet may I suggest that you could have a small humidor closet (50 sp. feet as 5' x 5') in the corner and keep it humidified with a $40.00 automatic room humidifier that you can set at 70% RH. I figure the cost to build the closet with the lumber, drywall and humidifier at $300.00. If you want to line the inside walls with Spanish cedar laminate or build some small shelves (I would use prefab material of your choice from home depot) the cost would go up $150.00. After that the only issue is temperature and if you are going to leave the place air conditioned you will be fine. I did this to a closet in the basement and always have 66 degree temperatures and maintain the RH at 65%. I store the cigars in their boxes and did not put any Spanish cedar on the walls. Excellent smoking cigars with no maintenance. The humidifier only runs a few minutes per day. I did nothing to seal the closet as the humidifier capacity for a room is so large for a closet that I would rather have the air exchange and eliminate all mold issues. This really is the way to go as your storage capacity will be 200+ boxes. A friend of mine did the same thing and he bought some shelving on wheels so he can roll his cigars in and out of the closet for inspection. You can mount a battery operated light in the top. I will upload some pictures if requested so you can see how cheap, easy and effective this humidified closet is.

Exactly, that's what I would do since you're still in the construction phase. I am waiting to do the very same thing when I move into my next new home. ![]() |
