Padron 80th and Serie 26 - differences

I smoked my first 80th maduro today. Loved it, but I can not detect a taste difference between the standard Serie 1926 maduro and the 80th maduro, other than the shape of the cigar. Do you notice a difference in taste between the standard and the 80th? Padron whores please respond

That's strange. I haven't had any besides the standard 1926, but I believe the concensus I've read is that there is a noticable improvement between the standard and the 40th or 80th, but very little detectable difference between the 40th and 80th themselves. Now I need to try a 40th or 80th...

My understanding is the 80th maduro is just a '26. But the 80th natural is a special blend. I don't know, just what my co-worker told me.

The two I had tasted very similar to a 1926 which was half the price. It's not a bad cigar at all but I think people went a little overboard when CA named it the cigar of the year. Like ESG and Opus to me it is a very nice cigar but not nearly worth the money. Get 2 x 1926, 3 x 1964, or half a box of Padron Londres for the same cash.

The ONLY difference between 1926 and 80th is the shape, and a much higher price, of course. Nothing more. 80th comes only in figurado and in 8 cigars per box package. The difference between 1926 and 1964 is the aging/fermentation process, 1964 sees roughly 4 years and 1926 sees 5 years.

Thanks for the replies. I found this bit of info at vitolas.net:

http://www.vitolas.net/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=40

"This perfecto has the trademark 1926 Serie box press, and a lush Nicaraguan sun grown maduro wrapper. The blend is most similar to the Padrón 1926 Serie 40th Anniversary cigar blend, which is a tweaked version of the 1926 blend, dubbed 'The Family Blend'."

I know this is coming from Padron and not you but this is incorrect. The shape is such because of shaping as a marketing gimmick and is not due to box pressing. Shaping is done outside the box with these cigars.

You are correct. I had tough time convincing friends of mine just a week ago they are paying a stupid price for a cigar that can be had for much less (any other 1926 vitola). I saw 2 80th Anni sticks sold on a day when the rest of the 1926 boxes didn't change content at my local B&M this week.

I've always thought the 80th tasted exactly like a 1926, now I know why. However, I think the 40 year is a little bit stronger than the 1926 line. It's my favorite Padron.
