Padilla Capa Clara

I just ordered some off a recommendation from some rather trusted members of another forum. I can't find any reviews. Only a few people saying they are a nice medium smoke.

I believe they are a Thompson exclusive, which turns a lot of people off. Anyone had one recently? I'm anxious to get them. I haven't ordered a box in a long time.

About a 5" robusto sized cigar with a light tan somewhat orange(?) wrapper.
It felt very light in my hand and the wrapper was very smooth- almost slick and delicate feeling to it. pre lit smelled of barnyard hay. I used a punch and the draw was very loose-kinda like sucking air thru a thick straw.I toasted and lit it. The first few puffs were of peanut butter and cedar. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavors. The wrapper left a bitter taste on my lips that went away just past the first third. After about an inch the draw tightened up to right about perfect. The rest of the cigar was very consitent, so I won't break this down into thirds. There was a nice zesty spice thru the nose-not at all strong or overwhelming-more of a compliment to the flavors on my tongue. The cigar had a nice earthy base with some toasty notes and a dry finish. The ash was a white/light gray that held solid for close to 2". The burn wwas even and never needed a touch up. I purged at the halfway mark and opened the flavor tunnel up again. The nic and spice picked up just a bit right near the end.
Overall-VERY consistent with great construction and burn.
Nice flavors-not complex and not one dimensional.
Nub factor-down to about 1".
I really enjoyed this cigar-I could just sit back and enjoy, I didn't have to think real hard about what I was tasting. Just a good solid cigar.
My first and last thought was a Pepin/Johnson cigar but medium-not full bodied. It seemed to carry that Tat flavor just not near as strong. The color of the wrapper kinda threw me for a loop as well.
Bob, thanks for a great smoke!

Great review, right on the money with the one I have tried. The wrapper got me as well.

What you smoked was a Padilla Capa Clara. I was pleasantly surprised with this smoke, lots of the Padilla character. Somewhat smoothed out by the aged Ecuadorian Connie wrapper. At $2.50 a stick, they are worth dealing with the dreaded Thompson's.

I copied this from the Blind taste test thread.

Haven't lit one in awhile, but I've got a few in the humidor. From what I remember it was a pretty enjoyable smoke, surprising for a Thompson exclusive, but on par for a Padilla.

Hurricane thanks for the reply. I didn't see that one, and I did search a few times and Googled them.

If you have never bought anything from Thompson be prepared to be inundated with email, don't give them your email address, snail mailings and any other method they have tp make sure you never, NEVER forget their name.
