Dry boxing definitely helps. That's why I usually have at least 5 cigars in my dry box at all times, cuz I never know what I'm in the mood to smoke.

Re: Cracking wrappers...

Hmm... well this thread may explain why one cigar I had (which was stored in the mid to low 60's) pretty much ended up disintegrating as I tried to smoke it down one cold, cold, winter day. The wrapper started peeling and it kept getting worse and worse. I had to throw in the towel with nearly 1/2 left.

Re: Cracking wrappers...

I had the same problem with one straight out of my coolerdor tonight. I noticed a tight draw and the lit end was definitely larger in diameter. Wrapper split at about 1/2 way into the cigar. Peeled off the wrapper and nubbed that sucka, but it lost lots of its flavor and didn't give up as much smoke as I like. Sad death for an otherwise good cigar. I usually dry-box, so I'm going back to dry-boxing before I ruin anymore.

Re: Cracking wrappers...

I had this problem last night, so I did a search on the forum to get any ideas. Smoked a 5 Vegas Miami and about 1/3 in, I noticed the wrapper starting to peel. My humi is a consistent 70% RH and it was in the high 30's/low 40's....in my garage. Smoked about 2/3 of the cigar and had to quit. Not sure what the issue is, considering I just smoked a Punch in the same conditions and it was fine.

Sounds like it's still up in the air whether it's the RH being too high, or the air being too dry?

Re: Cracking wrappers...

I think I may have ruined quite a few good cigars. I had a humidifier going in my back rm. My humi. is in the same room and I never thought twice about it. I started smoking & noticed the cigars appeared to split/unravel early in the smoke. Checked the hygrometer-read 80%. Cailbrated same-read 78%. Think the smokes were overhumidified, hence they became swollen w.moisture. 1 'n 4 seemed ok. I have taken out the humidifier & will let the cigars "rest" inside the humi for 3 or 4 days & see what transpires.

Common sense is rarely common. Obviously I failed to follow this sage advice.

Re: Cracking wrappers...

What you have said about Cameroons is totally true. I smoke outside in the winter, and those are the wrappers that give me the most trouble.
