QUESTION: Where is the cigar market going?

I've read a lot here about the states legislating public cigar smoking into oblivion...

I've read a lot about the shipping companies agreeing to stop shipping cigars...

And yet, I've also read a lot that seems to indicate a renewed interest in cigar collecting and smoking...

I wonder what the "state of cigar smoking" will be in five years... And wonder, also, about what will be posted here on CS in five years!

Ahh well... It's Friday night, and time for a cigar.

hard to say, IMO americans arent going allow anyone to tell us what to do. so I see us finding creative ways to get our stogies if the things you seem to think come to pass.

Re: QUESTION: Where is the cigar market going?

Just a side note...

A truck driver in California made a call-in to Cigar Dave about 30 minutes ago... Complaining that it's illegal for him to smoke a cigar in the cab of his truck.

Why? Because it's his "workplace."

PHEW!

It is interesting to think about.

Recently we have seen so many bans and rules placed on the enjoyment of cigars, yet the numbers of cigars imported are at an all time high.

IMO i think smoking bans are very fashionable for legislatures to focus on now, but I think that soon some other topic will rise to the top, and we can get back to enjoying our sticks without so much political oversight.

You're missing the point. By the time the vogue of banning smoking is over, you won't be able to smoke anywhere. Then, the legislators will be onto something else to ban as they continue to increment your freedoms away. These fuc&ers are like locusts... they swoop in, eat your rights away, then fly onto the next oasis of liberty to feed again and deforest your freedom.

Re: QUESTION: Where is the cigar market going?

In five years there will be a world wide smoking ban..Then after getting this done we will concentrate on lesser items like world hunger, crime ,,who is the next nut to get a nuke etc,,etc,,

I think cigars will be reduced to a small niche hobby that only hardcore enthusiasts and the affluent will continue to enjoy. That is, unless people stand up for their rights and vote these nazis out of office.

Unfortunately, we are easy targets, a small minority, and the health nazis have aimed their sights on us. Wait until they try to pass snack taxes on fattening foods and watch the food fight!!

Smoking has become an easy Political target on both sides of the aisle. It's not going to get any better no matter who you vote for.

Re: QUESTION: Where is the cigar market going?

It's just going to become tougher to find places to smoke. Getting cigars, well we will always find a way to get them

Re: QUESTION: Where is the cigar market going?

I think there has been an increase in the market and during the past few years more people are smoking.. but nothing like the mid to late 1990's! The trend now seems to be 'limited edition' and new blends of established brands. There is a lot of marketing in the business these days-you see it from Habanos and cigar makers from the DR, Nic..etc.. Maybe smokers are more educated and the brands need that 'edge' with the limited editions or perhaps they are targeting a more high end smoker? Don't get me wrong, some of these limited editions are really good and some of the stuff is not worth the price. To answer the question: I think the market will start to even out a bit and hopefully the makers will start focusing on quality. Supposedly Habanos has already started this..we'll see.
The bottom line is...It's a great time to be smoking cigars, most everything is available and the quality is good
