Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
I visit my local shop regularly to buy one or two (priced right) sticks that I have never tried before, I believe every stick deserves a chance.
As for buying my Fuentes I have better things to spend my money on then the twelve dollar Short Stories or up to sixteen for a Hemingway. I told the owner his prices were high and he simply said "they sell". The instant a cigar gets a good rating he adds an additional 6-7 bucks a stick. So I am forced to make almost all purchases online. ![]()

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
We have several good shops around the St Louis area and a really good one in Lake Ozark where we have a condo.
I've gotten to know the owners. The owners at my favorite shops are always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I love to browse, check out anything new they have, and just talk about cigars. Plus, I just love being in a cigar shop surrounded by all those yummy stogies. I usually buy boxes online. But, the shops are a terrific place to buy a few sticks of anything I want to try before I invest in a box. I also seem to go to the shops when I want just a couple of Davidoff, Ashton VSG or some other more expensive cigar. I have one newbie observation. Most of the owners seem to appreciate my dumb newbie questions and enthusiasm. There is one shop, however, where the owner always seems to have a superior, condescending attitude. He probably thinks he's cool ... but he's caused me to take my business elsewhere.

Support your local tobacconist's...
I WISH I could, but I only have one to choose from in my little town and it blows. Never can I find any PAM's or really anything of much excitement. The last time I walked in, 5 minutes later I walked back out. In about a year and a half, when I'm down in Tampa, THEN I'll take your advice and will fully support my local tobacconists. ![]() |

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
My favoirte local B&M is a half hour from my house. But Liam had an hour and a half activity class the last 4 weeks so Brigit and I headed over and perused the humidor. Couldn't smoke with her along, however I did find an almost full box of Bucanero Treasures for 1/2 price. I snatched them up and found a box of the Treasure Torpedos with 5 left behind it, also half price. I took those 5 as well..
I generally don't buy boxes at the locals. But I make it a point to visit them and buy singles often enough that the owners know be by name. The ower of the B&M 5 minutes from my house saved a Hemi Maduro and an Anejo when he got them in 2004. He seperated from the francise he was previously part of and became independant last year though, so it will be awhile before he starts getting the rare ones again now that he is a new account. -Matt- |

I bought my first box of Alec Bradley Havana Sun Growns at a local B and M for $46.00 (20). Haven't seen them anywhere on the net for less than 60.00.
If we don't go to'em at least some time, they won't be around much longer. |

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
I finally found the best cigar shop. I was in Santa Fe, NM for a meeting and found the Santa Fe Cigar Shop 510 Gasilo Road. The conversation was fantastic, the selection well stocked, and the shop owner friendly. My cigar was punched and torch-lit for me, I was given a tour and free pass to their private cigar lounge, and the conversation was intellegent and open. If you are ever in Santa Fe, hit this place up. Get the guy talking about rock and roll, he knows his sh#t.

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
I have been making a small donation to my local shop on a regular basis, but everything is MSRP so I usually just by singles. I did notice that they had several boxes marked Opus X on them when I checked out yesterday. Should have asked if they were full, or just for decoration. Unfortunately, the B&M is turning its attention to ACID and such and put their AFs on a bottom shelf that is hard to get to. On the plus side, they have a great collection of Padrons. Worth the $50 bucks a month or so I drop to have a good source of sticks to try out.

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
My local shop has had a great selection of Opus X. I have bought about a dozen of them recently. He has had them for over a month. I was talking to the owner and he said he will order a box of Anejos. He said they moved slowly the last time he had them.
I think most of is business is either Lottery or kids buying Blunt Wrappers ![]()

Re: Suport your local Tobacconist's
My local B&M is doing 50% off ST Dupont he has in stock. He has pretty much every cigar out at good prices. If I buy cigars from him, I don't try to beat him down on the price, service is what it's about for me.
