...So, now that I know a little...I'm kinda scared to smoke one. Anybody tried one?

Re: Don Tomas Candela
I've heard Candelas are an aquired taste. In other words, plain old nasty. You might as well try one and then report back to us.

Re: Don Tomas Candela
the 18 year old don tomas candela? hell yeah try it out! apparently Don TOmas "mismarked" and then lost a single bale of candela leaves in 1984. The bale was marked Cameroon instead of Candela and then tucked away somewhere in his massive factory. THis is the folk lure anyway... whatever is the truth one thing is for sure that wrapper is 18 years old and i would deffinitly be honored to behold one!
and as for candelas. 'eh'. I had the Camacho candela and the Indian tobac candela. both good, very mild and a little 'just plain smokey' tasting where many other sticks have a distinct personality trait. worth the time and suprisingly good overall. THough there something disturbing about the head once youve been smoking on it... it begins to look like cooked spinach after a while ![]()

Re: Don Tomas Candela
Never had one myself. But if you have them on hand, why not try it out.
My Lieutenant Colonel in the Army smoked some sort of Candela all the time. He sure liked them. Only thing I did not like was cleaning the ash tray after a rain where they remains had been fermenting for a day or 2. Had a smell I can not quite describe. Stacey |

Re: Don Tomas Candela
Ok, I tried it last night...sorry for the delay. Anyway, the flavor was really impressive, and the burn was even. Didn't really taste a difference in the candela at all. Only problem was the the draw was verry loose, and it didn't produce enough smoke at all. This could be an isolated problem, wont know for sure until I have another, but at $1.20 a stick I dont regret the purchase.

Re: Don Tomas Candela
I like the Don Tomas clasico line (nat and maduro), so i might as well try these as well. What's another $ 1.20 gonna matter now, heh? Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Don Tomas Candela
I like these for a change of pace, but I seem to be in the minority. Mild & clean with that strange, vegetal, candela thing going on. Can't beat the price if you like candela.
Never had a problem with draw or lack of smoke with these. Maybe different prefrences, maybe you got a wild one.. who knows?
