There is a 47% tobacco tax attached to any one who can get the BTL legit. For those sellers who got them through a second party, most likely they got them with a premium over the MSRP.

Very few California shops can sell any rare Fuentes/Padrons even at California tax added MSRP because they have to invest more money than the venders from low tax states just to sell cigars.

For example:
Padron 1964 Torpedo
$8 Cost, $15 MSRP - a $7 profit

California:
$12 Cost, $20 MSRP $ $8 profit

The money is tight up drastically when you have an order with one box of every size in the shipment. A $3k shipment will cost a California shop another $1500 in tax.

I'm with you Jeremy. I still have three left. A nice conversation piece, but not worth the retail price. If I didn't have scruples, I would put them on eBay like the rest of the rip off deals. You know, the "OPUS BANDS SEALED"for three times retail. Oh Well.

Alright, Relax. Slow down. Breath, think nice thoughts OOOhhhmmm pus, OOOhhhmmm pus, OOOhhhmmm pus.

I was going off on a tangent and needed to vent a little. Sorry.

That's better.

Re: Hemingway BTL worth it?

Just smoked one two days ago. Bought 8 or 10 for $20.- each, it's just fun to have them.

As has been said, they're good, but not better than other Hemi's. I'm going to wait a year before smoking the next one, just to see how they do in the humi.

Jeremy nailed it. More collectable than anything for me.

A friend took me out to Fuego in Downtown Disney the other night and bought a couple for 25 bucks each after dinner. Good, but not 25 bucks good.

Re: Hemingway BTL worth it?

It is a very good conversation piece. If you have them in your humidor, the wow factor out weight the taste. It is however, one of the best Fuente cigar. One can argue about OpusX and Anejo, I preferred BTL and Untold Story.

One of my customer who is not internet savvy, and have been buying the BTL for years, he can only find two or three sticks a year because by the time he get to the shop during the holiday season, most of them are sold out. His goal is to find enough to fill a box... Kinda funny way of doing thing... Because they don't match because of the year differences.

And the question is... If you crave them... Or need them during the month of June, what are you doing to do?

BTW, if you want rare Fuente stuff, Tinder Box in S. Cost Plaza has the best deal of any one in California. You can only buy two at a time though.

Want to buy. that makes sense. Is there a link to a seperate section of CS for Want To Buy, or do you post a new thread in Cigar Discussion? I'm still finding my way around here.

Here's the direct link:

http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=50

You have to go all the way back to the root to find it.

in time all things will be explained. newbs don't get full access upfront. BTW, i wouldn't ask for something like this or any HTF until you get some time under your belt. not unless you expect to get ripped off that is.

Re: Hemingway BTL worth it?

I chased down some of these several years ago and was only impressed with the appearance. They’re nice to look at, but not worth the money IMO. I’d prefer to buy something else.

That’s good to know. I’ll keep it in mind next time I’m down in OC. BTW, have you been to HiTime Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa? Although they might not have some Fuente HTFs, they have a great selection in their humidor.
