Moving Up

I've noticed that my tastes have moved from mild to medium bodied cigars during the past year.

I've tried a few of the more full flavored cigars last year when I first started to smoke cigars. I remember a La Gloria Cubana Series R that made my head spin. But, I've always liked some of the more full-bodied cigars like Punch and Padron.

It seemed time to give some of the more full-bodied cigars a real try. It was a beautiful day here in the Midwest. I finished with jury duty early. So, I rewarded myself for being a good citizen by stopping by a local shop and I bought:

2 Partagas Black Piramide (Wanna see if these puppies make my head spin)

2 Hoyo Dark Sumatra Espresso (Love Ecuadorian Sumatra wrappers)

3 Camacho Corojo Diploma (Bought these on the recommendation of the shop owner)

These are all now resting comfortably in my humidor. But, I'm sure one will wind up as my after supper cigar.

I would love to know what any of you think about any of these.

Those all sound wonderful. I'm sure that you will love them all. I'd smoke the Partagas Black first.

Re: Moving Up

oh, they're all pretty good. The dark sumatra always make my head spin...

good choice in full bodied smokers though.

post a few reviews, let us know what you think of them!

Re: Moving Up

Have you tried the Edge, by Rocky Patel? Also, if you want something with more kick to it, I'd suggest a Chisel, by La Flor Dominicana, a small cigar that will knock you on your butt. Caution, under no circumstances should you smoke this on an empty stomach.

The chisel is a double ligero. Double ligero's should be smoked with caution.

Good choice you made. You'll find that the more you smoke the more your taste will change. Every once in a great while I'll downgrade to a mild cigar, just to be different. Otherwise, it's pretty much full bodied for me.

Enjoy and let us know what you think.

Try the Tatuaje line, as well. Very balanced full flavored cigars, IMHO.

Re: Moving Up

Okay, I picked the Camacho, if for no other reason than I had an extra one of these.

I am just now finishing the last little bit of it. It was definitely more full-bodied than the RyJ Aniversario that I smoked with my martini while I barbequed the hamburgers.

I don't usually do reviews ... don't really think I'm qualified. But, here is what I thought.

Smoked it after supper with a Diet Pepsi. Yes, it was full-bodied and it had a really good flavor. I couldn't hope to pick out any of the flavors other than, perhaps, chocolate. The flavor was the best thing about this cigar ... and was the main reason I continued to smoke it.

The burn was VERY uneven. Had to correct it twice. It would have been three times but I just now put it down just past the ring. Also had to relight it once after just a short telephone conversation.

A poor burn is always frustrating to me. First, it's just a hassle. Second, as you're waiting for it to correct itself, a poor burn decreases the smoke and the flavor. That was a real problem with this cigar because, again, I really did like the flavor.

I'm glad that I have two more of these cigars. Hate to judge a cigar after only the first one. Who knows? I couldn't tell from the flavor but it could have been a little wet right from the shop. I think I'll let the other two rest for a few weeks and then give it another try.

I'm still looking forward to the Hoyo and that bad looking Partagas Black. Hope they taste as good as this one.

hey, qwerty - slightly off-topic, but what the hell... life can't be bad if you're barbecuing, smoking a cigar, enjoying a martini in illinois in february!

cheers!

Re: Moving Up

What you are experiencing happens to everyone it seems. I started out with cigars that I thought were pretty good, but now when I smoke them, they don't do anything for me. Started with Mac Hyde Parks, LGC Glorias and Monte Tubos. Now I mostly smoke CAO Brazilia's; Padrons; AFs and Partagas.

Life is good! It was 70 degrees yesterday and 75 today. Not normal for Illinois.

Clam chowder for supper ... Ash Wednesday ... wife is a Catholic ... good thing I love fish on the grill.

About ready for an after supper martini with my usual RyJ Aniversario. Think I'll let the Partagas Black and Hoyo rest a while in case they need to stabilize a bit.

I've been smoking the Robusto. Just started on a box of the Belicoso ... these could be the best of the lot.

Btw, I'm transplanted from the hills of Missouri to out here on the freaking prairie.
