Thinking of buying some Benchmade

I hear good things about this budget Pepin cigar. Of the people who have tried this, what is your favorite size. I am thinking of ordering a box of the Toros but I wanted to hear about other's experiences with this cigar. Thanks.

Also...is this a medium-bodied cigar? Medium-Full?

Re: Thinking of buying some Benchmade

It's medium-full (although, I think closer to medium).
I generally stick with robustos since I perfer a shorter smoke for "daily smokes". It's a mix of short/medium fillers so I found some consistency issues (not burn/draw--those are very good) on flavor. When it's on, it's very good. When it's not, well not so much. Oh and don't get too adventurous with the ash or you'll end up wearing them (or like me, vacuming them out of your keyboard).

Between this and Famous Nic 3000, I lean more towards the 3000. Both are medium-full but 3000 seems to be more consistent from cigar to cigar.

However, both are inexpensive enough that you should try both and decide for yourself.

I've got a couple Church's in the Humi; they were recommended by my B&M but I haven't tried 'em yet.

I went with the robustos, but that is most commonly what I smoke with any brand.

These are great everyday smokes. I smoke at least 2-3/week.

Re: Thinking of buying some Benchmade

I bought two boxes of Churchills on a closeout deal a while back. The first one I smoked was very good. the next few just average. The ratio on the first box was about 1 to 5. No draw or burn issues. A decent every day smoke and every once in a while one catches my attention.

Re: Thinking of buying some Benchmade

I generally smoke robustos. But I have seen the Toro usually for only $1 more per box so I really wanted to know if there was a big difference between the two aside from the length.

Anyone know about the filler used for these? Is it some of the same kind of filler that is used in any other Pepin-made sticks?

The lowest box prices I have seen are $45-$50.

I still can't decide whether to get one of those or not,,,smoke one and let me know as you know I trust your cigar sense.

Re: Thinking of buying some Benchmade

Good quality to price ration, but nothing too exciting here IMO. I find them just OK and would not be willing to pay more than $1.00 per stick. Good smokes to gift.

Re: Thinking of buying some Benchmade

Well, I finally tried two of these and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I have been smoking a lot of serie JJs lately and the flavor of the benchmade reminded me of the JJ. Maybe they have some of the same tobacco?

For under $3/stick I will definitely consider getting a box of these.
