Re: Lighting preferences-
Most anything will do the job. A Bic is just as good as anything else. Matches or a Zippo just require that you let it burn a few seconds to get rid of the odor before you touch it to the cigar. Anything else is just for style points, which I also indulge in. I use an IM Corona Old Boy as my primary lighter, but use a Xikar Genesis torch for touchups. I just find the torch to be overkill for a primary light. Just your personal preference, anything will work.

Re: Lighting preferences-
The B&M I go to has millions of 50 count boxes of Sulfur Free Wood matches they give out when you buy cigars. There's also like 20 or so of the boxes in the lounge, which me and the guys use. We don't bother with lighters.

Re: Lighting preferences-
In Cuba they use bics.....
![]() Makes you wonder if we are over thinking this. But for me, I usually use matches or my old boy. Let the end slowly warm up......dont rush it. If you use a torch, try putting your finger over the end you cut. This wil keep the fuel vapors and excess smoke from traveling up the cigar. This kinda heads off the first few puffs of your cigar being bitter. |

Re: Winter option
Yeah, but what do you use to light the 100 dollar bill? I like to use a smudge made from egyptian saffron and the freshly shorn hair from an infant born of a virgin. To light that I use use a lens cast from sand which has been sealed from the atmosphere for aeons by antarctic ice but which was otherwise common during the cretaceous period, magnifying sunlight of a quality which can only be found on the summit of K2.
But I'm thinking of switching to a colibri. Last edited by uvacom; 01-16-2009 at 01:25 PM.. |

Re: Lighting preferences-
Picked up a cheap Robson the other day at CVS for around $4. Works quite well I must say.

Always & everytime I use my Blazer torches.
Couldn't be bothered to fiddle with matches.

Re: Lighting preferences-
I got a free holt's butane lighter free with a bundle purchase and have been using that ever since. Quicker and more even light than matches.

Re: Lighting preferences-
I use a cheap 2.99 Vector torch style lighter I bought at the gas station down the street. It lights every time on the first click.

Re: Lighting preferences-
I'm an old school wooden match kind of guy (when out in my man cave). Although I do carry my trusty Blazer torch for touch ups, relights, and windy conditions.

Re: Lighting preferences-
If someone can spend 10 bucks for a cigar that will give you one hour of enjoyment, then it's worth it to spend a couple more dollars for a lighter that will last you a lifetime.
Matches can even change the flavor of cigar due to the sulfer (you need to let that burn away before putting it to the foot of the cigar). Get a torch or any kind of butane lighter. I have many and my fav is the Dupont.

I must be the only Zippo user. 90% of the time I use one. No fuel smell and it lights at 10000 ft.

Re: Lighting preferences-
Do yourself a favor and find a Ronson Jet-Lite. It will be the best $5.00 you will ever spend on a lighter! I know you said money has been tight, but I promise you will be glad you spent the money.
