So, I've tried a lot of cigars so far...

Hey guys, just updating you on what's been going on since my B-Day on January 3rd.

So far I have smoked 14 Cigars:

3 Acid Blondies
2 Oliva Serie V's
2 Oliva Serie G's
1 Flor de Oliva Maduro
1 EO No. 21 Maduro
1 EO No. 21 Connecticut
1 "601" Sumatra Maduro
1 Punch "Imported"
1 JFR Cuban Seed Connecticut
1 Drew Estate

I only disliked one of them: The Flor de Oliva Maduro. The reason I disliked this one, was because the draw was impossibly tight, after about 10 minutes of using a draw tool, the cigar had only loosened slightly. It had a bad taste, almost musty like. The wrapper came undone as it was being smoked. Ahh, I could go on, but nah. A simple word can sum it up: Frustrating.

Also, I have 4 cigars waiting to be smoked atm. They are as follows:
1 Perdomo Fresco
1 Quorum
1 Rocky Patel "The Edge"
1 Rocky Patel Vintage 1990

Anyways, just wanted to update you guys, and wondering what you're up to at the moment.

Sounds like you've been doing some fine smoking. Sorry to hear about the Flor De Oliva. Although I have no experience with that particular cigar, it sounds like you have gotten a bad example. Musty usually doesn't happen unless it's been overhumidified for a lengthy period of time. I may be wrong on this though.

The next one's you have in your line-up you should enjoy.

Happy smoking

13 smokes in 11 days? Man, you're on a tear! Talk about jumping off a cliff. You'll need a parachute at the rate you're going. No slope for you. Straight down.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
I've already figured out you shouldn't go off the review websites for cigars. You shouldn't purchase a cigar because of a review, you should purchase a cigar to enjoy it, if that makes sense. You should try different things, and go with the flow. Anything and everything may tickle your taste buds. It's about variety, and rolling with the punches, eh?

Anyways, I sure hope I enjoy them!

You'll find the more time you spend reading reviews around here and trying different cigars, you'll notice members that your tastes are very similiar to. It's fun getting and sharing recommendations with these people on cigars because they're usually spot on for your preferences.

Hey, Just wondering, there's a couple cigars in the shop I go to that have the colorful wrappers that have the big "Cohiba" print on them. Are those Cubans?

NO. They're surely "Red Dots". If they have a red dot inside the letter O, they are Dominican. Cubans have Yellow squares on a black background, with the word Habana.

It's a big controversy in the industry. Many families fled Cuba and started over again with the same name. Punch, Monte Cristo, Cohiba, RyJ to name a few. Does the family have claim to the trademark, or does Fidel have legitimate claim? Many lawsuits have been filed in international courts concerning infringement. Is always an interesting subject anytime there are rumors about lifting the embargo on Cuba.

Now I'm not entirely sure if it said Habana or Cohiba...

Crap, now I want to go there just to check.. It's 3 miles away, and my mother says every wednesday I can't smoke a cigar.. She'd get suspicious if I said I wanted to go..

Ah well, there's always tomorrow. There's a high chance there will be no school due to the wind chill. It will feel like -15 to -20 Degrees Fahrenheit!

Wondering if I should buy the FDO again, and give it one more go?
Maybe it was just the bad one of the bunch?

Re: So, I've tried a lot of cigars so far...

I'd say try it again, bud. Anytime I've thought a cigar was unsatisfactory, I usually buy another, let her age a bit, and then try her again. Unlike baseball, though, I tend to stick to a 2-strike your out rule. Keeping a list of the one(S) that strike out, and I figure I'll try them again within the next 6 months or so.

Re: So, I've tried a lot of cigars so far...

I have tried the Perdomo Fresco, and it was a great cigar. I think it cost me around $2, which just goes to show sometimes price has nothing to do with the quality of a cigar.

@Vagrant: I've decided to buy another once I get the money, but let it age a little in my makeshift humidor. Hopefully the next one does not dissapoint.

I'm with Vagrant on this one. Make sure you dry-box it for a couple of days before you smoke it. That will help with the draw issues and bring out the flavor. Good luck.

Why Wednesday??
What shop is it?

And like a couple others - I'd give it one more try - but only one.
