Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I bought the Diamondback humidor and loved it so much I immediately turned around and ordered another one. I also have their aluminum briefcase travel humidor which has served me well on a couple of camping trips, and I'm sure it will on many more in the future. Their cigar "deals" are marginal, at best, and avoid their house brands unless you're looking for something to discourage moochers. Just one or two of their La Condessas or La Palomas should get them to either give up cigars completely, or at least start buying their own.
I have one humidor that is almost filled with a 2-fer of JAD robustos, and one box each of Jose Girbes and RG Santiago toros. They aren't horrible, there's just not much to them. They're decent for yard 'gars, or any time I'm in the mood to have a cigar but I'm doing something else, too, and not really focusing on the 'experience'. They're very one-dimensional, and that dimension is plain tobacco. There's nothing about them that strikes me as being really foul, but there's also no spices or excitement to them, either. they serve my purposes, but I probably wouldn't recommend any of them unless you're a pretty hardcore smoker, like I am. The first two orders I did with Thompson's were great. The third (and last) order was a 3-week ordeal. I finally got everything and got the billing straightened out, but three weeks is ridiculous for an internet business. I get the occasional e-mails from them, but I signed up for them, and if they're calling me, they're doing it while I'm at work and not leaving any messages. I've been hesitant to mention this, because I'm frankly a little superstitious about things like this. I don't know if the 4-hour time difference between here and Florida factors into it at all.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I've ordered twice from Thompson. I've received exactly two phone calls from them. Both were to notify me that tobacco was being shipped to my address, as required by law in California. I have received no ther phone calls from them. The only thing even close to annoying is the catalogs I receive monthly.
Thompson's does have the occasional good deal. Just make sure to opt out of all their contact options if you do decide to order something from them.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
My first purchase was with Thompsons They offered a humi and 20 gars for $29.95. The humi is a nice little 30 to 50 count (which I still use). But the gars were their house brand dog turds. I stayed with them for a couple of years trying some of their exclusives RG Santiago and Reyes Sr.'s Roly, Genuine, and San Victors (which really aren't that bad). They conned me via the telephone into their 250 club which I used to get the aformentioned gars. I even bought a Lucky 7 humi (which I really love) from them with some of the points. Then I started noticing that they were cheating me on my points. That was the straw that broke the camels back. I cancelled my membership and haven't looked back. I still get there catalogs monthly which I peruse for their comic value. I also have a problem with sites that charge you shipping by the dollar amount spent an not by the actual weight. You can buy one box of super premiums or a boatload of their dog turds and pay the same price for shipping. That's just not right. The only thing I would buy from them would be a humi. They are decent and decently priced. Man, I really love ripping on Thompson!

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
Its a relief to hear I'm not the only one with a Thompson humidor!
I really don't order from them anymore but the humi holds about 120 and I've never felt the need to buy a second one. (Ha, I just tried to see if they still carry it, and the search is broken on the website!) It's just a plain box with no windows or locks or other blingy things but a few dividers and a tray. I love it.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
Am I the ONLY OLD TIMER that has had good dealings with the stick side of Thompson's?
I bought a bunch of 5 packs for a good price and the delivery didn't go steller. I called cust service. Complained about the POOR packing and damaged sticks. 2 days later replacement sticks came. Next order was without fail. If the deal is to your liking and the sticks are NOT thompson's ...go with it. Tom

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
Thompson's does not make my top 10 but if they have a deal that is better than anyone else, I'd pull the trigger on them. They just remember your address and bug you forever,,so if that is ok with you, order away.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I ordered from Thompson's once. The telemarketing calls started before my order even arrived and didn't stop for almost a year. For the first four months it was at least daily, and sometimes several times a day. There are better options. Places I have done business with and had complete satisfaction:

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I've done a few orders with Thompson over the last fifteen or twenty years. Mainly back before on-line ordering took off and mail order was still in.
My only real complaint was that their shipping to the west coast was so incredibly slow. Also I certainly wouldn't order any of their various house brands (I've been given a few over the years and they were downright nasty), but if you see a spectacular deal on something you want, I wouldn't shy away. They did call me once years ago. I told 'em no thanks, and I never heard from them again. I still get emails from them that are deleted, along with many other cigar company offers I also delete. Doesn't bother me. Other than their slow boat shipping, I have no beef with them. I don't recall them ever sending me an improperly cared for smoke, or screwing up an order. I think their prices are generally high, but you can probably score some good deals on the samplers.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
As others have said, Thompson's does have good deals sometimes on some things. I recently got a sampler package of 15 Gurkha cigars with a 20 ct humidor for $60. I thought that was a good price, the humidor was decent quality, and I was satisfied with the sticks. They did phone me, but I just cut them off and hang up. I actually LIKE their 3-4x a week emails. No skin off of my nose to press the delete key, and sometimes they alert me of a good deal.

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I ordered a sampler of 25 Thompson house brand cigars, it came with a 25 count humidor & lighter. The cigars are alright at best, can't wait to try some other brands, but the humidor seems to be just fine.
But I've got a question does this seem like a good deal? Because I'm thinking about getting both of these. Samplers - All Samplers A-Z - 12 Cigar Selection Sampler Humidors - Capacity 150 + - Lucky 7 Humidor |

Re: Thompson Cigar deals..? Ideas?
I'm surprised to hear everybody ripping on Thompson's. I've made several orders with them including a a great deal on a 300 ct. humi that I love. Admittedly some of their prices are high but, when they have a great deal on a smoke I like it really is a pretty good deal.
I've had no problems with their shipping or billing and have received no calls from them. I do get a lot of catalogs but, after a quick perusal I chunk. Have also ordered from J.R. and Corona and look forward to trying some of the others you guys have mentioned here. Cheers! |
