DryMistat

Ive put a drymistat tube in my desktop humi that contains around 30 cigars in it and after first putting it in the rh was at 71% and has started to decline to 67%. I added some distilled to my humidifier to get the humidity back up to 70%. I know everyone says 67 is fine but ill be down south for my baseball spring trip for 10 days and dont want to worry about the humidity. Has anyone else had to do this?

Re: DryMistat

Is the DryMistat tube your only humidification device? I did keep DryMistat tubes in the drawers of my cabinet, but this was in addition to active humidification, i.e. Oasis. I now use beads in place of the DryMistat tubes.

I wouldn't count on the tubes as your only source of humidity. You might want to consider adding a shot glass of distilled water.

Re: DryMistat

yeah I tried using it as my only humidity device. I went about two weeks without adding h2o to my humidifier thinking the drymistat would provide the humidity I need but Ill go back to adding small amounts of distilled.

Off topic, but see what you think about smoking at 67 instead of 70. I find I like it much better. It is all good.

Re: DryMistat

Hell, I'll be happy if I'm still smoking at 67 or 70 the way the laws are going.

Oh wait, I took it a different direction. Is this like the word association thread. j/k couldn't resist.

Re: DryMistat

I kind of take the "There's no substitute for cubic inches" approach... Using the drymistats plus the beads plus the credos, all at 70%. It's undoubtedly overkill... But I can walk away knowing the "something" is doing its job!

I'm not sure. I'm sure that the amount of water required using some formula way above my head. This is just a suggestion for a temporary source of humidity in your absence. It would probably be better to go to your local B&M and buy a credo suitable for your humidor and fill it with PG solution. You can find cheap credos for less than $10.00.

I doubt a shot glass of water would add too much humidity. I have a glass in my humi which is floating around 65%. My beads are 70% and have been thoroughly sprayed down, but my RH is still a little low, even with active humidification. I added the water to attempt to bring the RH up. Truthfully, it may not help much, unless there were enough airflow inside the humi. It will, however, add too much humidity to your cigars if it spills.
