Re: Torpedo's and cut
I use the "Dickman" cut as well because I'm such a ,,,,wait a second,,,because I like a cigar with an angled cut. I know where you were going with this,,,

Re: Torpedo's and cut
I always use a Palio on torpedo's , I score it around first going deeper & deeper as I score it and then make the final clip :

Start off small, then go from there. The draw is more important to me then anything else.

Re: Torpedo's and cut
since you pay the extra money for that torpedo tip, it should be kept intact.....however, if the draw is pretty tough, then keep cutting down until it is satisfactory

Re: Torpedo's and cut
I love torpedos, for a number of reasons, so I smoke quite a few of them. I use my Xikar cutter and try to make the opening about the same size as my bullet punch, or a little bigger. A little over 1/4". Since they have different taper angles, how much you cut off will also vary accordingly.
The more I smoke, the less I'm interested in the "perfect cut". As it turns out, "good enough" is, well, good enough. As long as there's enough cap to keep the wrapper from unraveling, I just sort of eyeball it. I'm a pretty unsophisticated smoker, I know that, so what works for me may not work for anyone else.

I smoked an Oliva O last night (great smoke, but they dont make the best torps out there). It was way too tight. Rather than cutting deeper, I just used a plug tool on it. Ended up, I'd have had to cut about an inch off the thing to get a decent draw. I typically cut about a .22caliber bullet heads worth off the head; roughly a quarter inch.

Re: Torpedo's and cut
i usually cut a little off, if the draw is good, i will settle for that, but if its still a little tight for my liking, i will cut a bit more off...good luck

Re: Torpedo's and cut
I usually opt for the angled cut. More surface area exposed, while keeping the structural integrity of the cigar intact. Physics is on your side.
