A Conversation With Dale Scott of Tabacos de la Cordillera

Other companies talk about customer service; Dale Scott of TDLC does it. I got a surprise call from Dale - FROM COSTA RICA - just to tell me that my huge 22 dollar order would ship a couple days late! Now I did mention that I was on C-R and reviewed cigars for the site, but a friggin' PHONE CALL FROM COSTA RICA!?!!!

Anyway, I thought I recognized Dale's name so we started talkin' stogies. Turns out Dale's an old Missouri boy and knows exactly what I'm sayin' when I mention the soft red-clay flavor of habanos. We then go on to talk about how great the old Costa Rican Tony Bahia smokes were, the tinny taste in some N/C, and a bunch of other stuff. Then I mention pinning down Avelino Lara one day at Greycliff and he admits they're using a lot of Costa Rican ('course I knew that, I was just in the rolling room and they got boxes of wrapper lining the walls floor to ceiling marked CR). Dale laughs and sez "That's our tobacco!"

Well, we went on like that for about a half hour to 45 min. Just two old stogie dogs talkin' cigars. That's the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Now I'm really psyched to try these smokes. And if TDLC really is supplying Greycliff we're all in for one helluva treat even if they don't replicate the old habanos taste.

Anyway, Dale also sez that customs at Miami is way backed up due to Katrina and it may take a while to get the smokes. Be patient, I think the odds that we're all in for a helluva treat just went WAY up.

Thanks for the heads-up HM.
They had a real nice writeup on them in Smoke Magazine, the issue before this current one. I am intrigued......

That's cool. Dale's a real cool guy. I chatted on the phone with him too for the story on Tabacos de la Cordillera.

He writes for Smoke Shop Magazine too. That's the trade-only version of Smoke Magazine.

Everyday when I see the mailman, UPS or any other delivery truck coming down the road, I run outside like a kid that just saw Santa Clause coming down the street, but no smokes yet.

Thanks for the additional info HM.
