Re: Cutters
I wonder.... to all the people who dislike Xikar cutters, which one are you using? The Xi1 or the Xi2? The Xi1 are all metal, while the Xi2 are mostly made of plastic I think. I'd be willing to guess that most of the positive comments are about the Xi1, and most of the negatives are about the Xi2. Just a thought.
Oh, and for the record, I use cheap double guillotine cutters that I get here and there. Most of the time, I get one for free with my B&M purchases, so that has kept me pretty well stocked. They do get loose and dull over time though, and I've had 1 or 2 cigars over the past year start to unravel on me. I don't really have a nice lighter, and I don't have any nice cutters, but the cigars seem to smoke just fine! Just my 2 cents.

![]() Except for the biting off part. I love my Palio, it is awesome. Basically just send it in if anything goes wrong. No questions asked.

Re: Cutters
The best Xicar IMO is the MTX multitool cutter... I still need to get me one but I've used my brother's before and it is awesome and serves many uses other than a cutter

Re: Cutters
I have two Xikars (a X1 and a redwood trimmed engraved one) and a Palio. My preference is the Palio as I find it make the best cut. That is not to say that the Xikars are bad, they actually work very well but the Palio beats them. In terms of styling the Xikars win and when you are around people at a gathering who don't really smoke cigars they seem to be more impressed with Xikars just because of the way they look.

Re: Cutters
I hope I'll be able to try mine again someday. I sent it in for repair (because it couldn't make a clean cut) on the 13th and I'm still waiting to hear from them on the 28th. Now that's service.

not too broke to not smok

How do blades self-sharpen? If one can understand quantum physics, perhaps one could understand that; or, more likely would understand that they don't. However, palio owners are happy with their cutters, while some of Xikar owners are sending theirs in for repairs too often. someone please give me a palio. cheers

Re: Cutters
I used to punch all the time, but then I got a Palio. I love it and have had no problems with it.

Re: Cutters
I would prefer to spend my money on cigars and not cutters...I have a few of the $5 Savoy double blade cutters and they work great..

Re: Cutters
![]() Seven of my yard 'gars that I 'clipped' with the 80-grit sanding disk in the picture, just as an experiment. It actually works better than you might think. 4-5 small circles with light pressure, and the cap is completely opened right up. I tested the draw on all seven, and it was great. I got no tobacco bits in my mouth, either. You can tell by feel when you are through the cap, because the end of the filler leaves increases the resistance quite noticeably. The raggedy one on the far right is what happens when you press down too hard and it snags and tears the cap, instead of just shaving it away. I also tried a 150-grit foam sanding block, but the cigar just slides back and forth and doesn't take off the cap. Not very elegant, I admit, and I wouldn't recommend this for a $30 Anejo, but it shows that there's more than one way to skin a cigar.
