CLIPPING OR PUNCHING ?

This may seem a pretty obvious thing for you guys but in the past I'm sure I've ruined a perfectly good smoke because I've chosen the wrong option.

Told ya I'm new to this

I use to use a punch... then a V cut.... all because I didn't like the tabacco in my teeth.....

I could NEVER get a peferct draw with those options and now live by the straight cut. Plus.... what to do you if someone hands you a torp? Straight all the way baby!

(Not that there is anything wrong with the others of course.... )

Was this a question.??? Did I do good?

Same goes for me, CM. I used to use a punch or V religiously, but now the only cigars I punch are ones I know to have an open draw.

You always do good...Good boy..stay...lay down....

I bought a smoke in SD awhile back and they guy cut it with a V cutter...and I was surprised that it smoked very well. (The first time having one V-cut notwithstanding...)

The only punch I owned broke last year and I've been using a double guillotine cutter. Different smokes, different speeds. Some if you go too fast split and unravel.. Too slow and you can crush it before cutting and it unravels...

I guess golf tees don't count as a punch...do they?

Always clip off the end-very carefully. Just nip it so the cap falls off.

Thanks guys,
I'm not too far out in my choices then, pretty much getting it right, the cigars I know to have an open draw I use a Punch, the rest get clipped until I find out how they draw.

That's 1 question down, hundreds to go.

I clip my cigars. Usually the cap falls right off, and then i have no problems.

Before I had a cutter, i made the mistake of using whatever i had handy to punch a hole in it (back of a wooden match) and once or twice i used scissors but that ruined the cigar. Terrible, foolish mistakes.

Oh, and "lick" it before punching/cutting. This adds to the tactile sensation of the lighting ritual. Just make sure it's not a "community" cutter.

Depends on the smoke, Punch for most, guillotine for Torpedoes, and brands I'm not familiar with. V-cut only occasionally, although I don't mind it at all.

Same with me. I will use a punch about 90% of the time. If it has a round head it gets punched. Tapered heads have to be clipped, obviously. I will try a "cloverleaf" punch if the draw is tight and it that doesnt help I will clip. The only V-cut I ever had was done by the clerk in a B&M.

I have bought a bunch of inexpensive punches at the B&M and I have one clipped to my key ring. This way I always have one handy.

I like using a punch but not all punches are equal. I have found alot of them to be dull. I like a very sharp punch with a slight twist and push method.

I have retractable punch's on both key rings, and a small one given to me by a friend in my golf bag.
