Anyone ship cigars to the troops?

We 'adopted' a soldier about a year ago and have been sending letters and care packages. e are putting together a box this week to send this weekend. I am going to to send some cigars in this one.

Anyone have any recommendations on ensuring they do not dry out? I figured that I would double ziplock them with a humipak in an open ziplock on the inside.

If you have sent successfully, I would love to hear how you did it.

Oh, I figure I will send some cutters and matches. Is there anything wrong with this?

I have sent some to my friend Tom that served over there.... he did say it is Sooo dry that a good humidor and water pillows (hummy packs) are a must.

He also laughted when I asked him if he liked Cubans.... "Michael, I can buy Cuban's over here..... "......

I won't have time to buy and season a Humi. I see a tupperdor in the near future!!

You should have followed up by asking him if he needed any sand?

LOL
My shop send them out, in quantity, a couple time a year. However, that is so cool that you've "adopted" a particular soldier/troop?!
Agreed about the humipouch/waterpillow's. Many manufactures(Fuente and Torano come to mind) put those humipouches in with their boxes they send to retailers. You may want to go to your local B&M and ask him if he'll give you the ones he pulls out of the boxes he's putting out for display?

I sent some to a buddy of mine that's over there now. I put them in a larger ziplock with 2 small humipak's. He said they arrived in great condition and he actually received them in like 5 days from when I sent them which really surprised me.

Thanks Stan and Chris,
I'm going to stop by the dreaded Wally world and pick up some tupperware. Then head to the Res and see if they will donate and humipacks, if not I have seen them there and will buy a few.

I will second all of the above. It isnt too hot there yet so you should be safe from the extreme heat and drying out. I would out always put it in a tupperfor or a strong box because the packages get smashed to shit a lot of the times. It will take a few weeks to get to them depending where they are sooooo the humi packs are a good Idea. Good on ya for sending them..... You are a great American

I've sent, and there are auctions and such for the troops on CS frequently. As others have mentioned, a tupperdor with humidification is a must, as well as a cutter and matches
