Tile Complete

Alright, I mentioned over the weekend Mrs. JAX commited me to removing carpet from our hallway and installing 20x20 tile. The trick was I had to match it with the work that we had done early last year. Well it is finally complete.

In case your wondering how this ties into cigars...I smoked every freak'n night I was working on this! And you can bet your @ss I'll be having one tonight. Check out the March thread for details.

Here's where I had to match them up. The top of the photo was the tile layed down early last year.

This is the hall looking down towards the guest bedroom (far end), my office (mid shot) and back out to the living room.

And here is the final shot leading into the guest room. I had to make sure the carpet wasn't destroyed because for the time being we're keeping it.

Here's the kicker...I've NEVER layed tile before in my life!!!

Nice job! You should smoke one every night this week as a remembrance of your hard work .

Nice job. I tried putting tile down once. I put the underlayment down and butted all the joints real tight, I wanted it ti be solid.

My brother tried to convince me to leave at least a 1/4 inch gap between the boards. I WOULD NOT LISTEN. I then proceeded to put the mastic down, lay the tiles and inserted the spacers. I was really proud of myself.

Went out to dinner and a few brews. Come back and guess what, the boards swelled and all the tiles popped up so that it looked like nice rows of open clam shells all layed end to end. Live and learn.

Wonder how I fixed it, well here is how. I took a circular saw and cut grooves down every other row. Over night they all settled back down and were flat and level again. Next time I will listen.
