Re: cook county ban?

What a bunch of BS!!! Although I should not be surprised since I live out here on the Left Coast, headquateres of hte Tobacco Nazi Left.

Damn thing even applies to a cigar shop where all they have is cigar smokers going in!! I am sure many patrons of the cigar shops will be releived that they no longer have to endure the cloud of smoke in the shop when they go in to buy a couple stogies.

I am...this is complete bulls#it. How can they pass an ordinance as a county which supercedes home-rule villages' rules? Stroger and his cronies are a bunch of ignorant a$$hats, and I am sure someone will get an injunction to at least delay this. No grace period for bars and restaurants like the city of Chicago did? They could cripple some businesses in short order. Thanks for firing me up Julian...LOL

WTF is that. bans suck, i can see the cigarette taxes, doesn't really affect me, but damn that's the kicker: no exceptions, even for tobacco stores.

They got bans in place here in Austin. Really sucks. If the owner of the place wishes to ban, then fine. Government needs to get their damn nose out of my biz.

I hated the day they passed that ban in Austin. I saw how the Lance Armstrong Livestrong wristbands were also used as funding money for the campaign there in ATX and other places. They are attempting to do the same here in Fort Worth, but the council members I smoked with said the movement is just a few people and are jumping on the bandwagon. One reason I am voting for Kinky!

And do not think the Livestrong foundation was funding the bans. You got a good soruce for information on that?

Re: cook county ban?

I have been living with a city ban for over a year here in Duluth and it really sucks. A few rural bars still allow it and have increased biz because of it. A county ban would end that as well. Government needs to keep out of this... If I open a bar or restaurant and I want to allow smoking that should be my damn business and right! It's just wrong whats going on throughout the country.

Re: cook county ban?

Here in NY they have had the old smoking ban for about a year now, and it does indeed suck. More so for cigar smokers, as puffing away on a Churchill in 20 degree weather is pretty impractical.

Duluth is run by some liberal squirrels but the folks up there elect them..Mpls is just as bad...They do the same thing under the ruse that bars and restaurants do just as well as before the ban then cry about wanting a state ban to level the playing field..If the propaganda was true they don't a level playing field, people would be flocking to mpls to avoid the evil smokers..
Are private clubs also banned up there??

Jerry in Minnesota.

There are no real private clubs up here... The Gitchee Gammi club (for the extremely wealthy) used to have a cigar room, I am unsure how it affected this club. Our city wide ban affects any establishment which serves any kind of food.
