To serve and protect

In order to serve you, my BOTLs, and because I am a cheap Dutch bastard, I did a little research and have compiled a list of prices at the better known internet cigar retailers.

I have no commercial interest in this whatsoever, just looking for the best deal. If there are any of you with commercial interests on this forum, I apologize in advance, no harm meant.

I chose the box of 25 Arturo Fuente 8-5-8s for the price inquiry, because I like the smoke and it is widely available at every retailer. It is possible (probable) that other cigars may be more or less expensive, but I thought this would give us a good idea of price ranges.

I also fully support my local mom and pop B&M (Mom's Cigars, who also have a web site) but we all do buy from the internet now and then.

Enough with the disclaimers...

So here goes:

$87.95 TNTcigar.com They boast "Save over J&R"
$89.95 J&R
$89.95 Holts
$89.99 Famous Smoke
$93.75 CI
$94.95 Neptune Cigars
$98.75 BestCigarPrices.com
$99.79 Cigars Direct
$100.00 Mike's Cigars (this is the suggested retail price listed by the above discount houses)
$113.00 Thompson
$139.95 Cigar.com

I was really surprised at the huge disparity in prices. To give the more expensive guys the benefit of the doubt, the biggies like J&R buy in huge bulk, and have all the right connections, so that lowers the price to us. the sleeper was TNT cigars, which I have never heard of.

So that's it. Make of it what you will. It's better to be informed than ripped off, right?

Yes, they all start at $1.00 and the highest bid at the end of auction wins. You can get some great deals if you do your homework.

But it is seriously addictive .

do you bid the highest you're willing to go, like on ebay, and the program incrementally upbids when needed?

i'll have to give it a try.

Yes, just make sure you put it in the right spot.
They have directions on how to bid, just read them before bidding and you should be good to go.

Just don't blame me when you empty your bank account .

You've been warned...after your first win on c-bid, you won't stop!

I think c-bid is the #1 reason for divorce among cigar smoking married men .

I find it odd that the CI price and the cigar.com price are so different. Isn't cigar.com owned by CI (who is in turn owned by Sweedish Match Co.)?

If I had kids, I would whore them out on the streets in order to place more C-Bid orders. It's temptation that no man has been able to resist; it's like a black hole and we are light.

Keep in mind that some of these places may put more emphasis on keeping your cigars stored properly when they arrive. Some places may not even sell you boxes directly off the import truck (or ship) until they have settled down a bit. All of this costs money. Some places have invested quite a bit of money into computerized humidification systems for their storage areas. I'm not saying that low priced places are no good, just to keep some things in mind; cigars must be properly maintained at all times.

C-Bid is the Devil!! I have three more auctions that close this week for a total of seven.

It's simple actually. First you explore your options for stogies on the website, then you place your bids...next you'll win. Repeat until divorced, and broke.

The good news, you can always find more money. The bad news, you're doing your own laundry! But you'll be smoking.

In all seriousness. Yes, it's very similiar to Ebay. Research the prices first on CI to help determine your highest bid (considering shipping costs). Most of the inventory repeats itself every couple of days so there is no need to "jump on anything"...you'll see some really high bidders (aka: overbid) but you'll also get some damn sweet deals if you're patient enough.

But as others have said, you have been forewarned.....
