BEATLE ALERT!!!! BEATLE ALERT!!!!

A wholesaler I work with at another company called me this morning. For buisness.... but a couple of weeks ago he asked me why he couldn't get his humidor's to stay level.

I had the whole conversation about "Charging" your humidors every so often.

He did that... and thanked me, because...

1) It worked.... his humidors are fine now.

2) He took that time to inspect his 200+ collection and found about FIVE of his 5-Vegas "A" were totally eaten by beatles!!!!!!!!! He saw something bad above one of the ceder sleaves..... took it off and they were DESTROYED!!!!!

He also had a couple Partagus Spanish Rosoata's that took a small hit....

But he is very VERY sure it was the 5 - Vegas "A"'s.....

Please take a moment this weekend and check your stash.....

Thanks for the tip. I have about 10 Spanish Rosado's aging in one of my humidors (which happens to be completely filled.)

Boy that's worrisome even though I have no 5-Vegas or Partagas Spanish Rosado's in my coolerador. Any tobacco leaf is subject I guess.

Tell me if this is overly paranoid or a good idea. I try to keep my travel Otterbox/humidor out of the car in the summer, or if it's in there I keep it in a soft cooler with a little ice, to keep the beer company you see. Anyway if these Otterbox sticks get above temp for any kind of period of time, overnight or forgotten until the next day, I'll drop them in the freezer for 48 hours or so before they go back into the humidor. Paranoid, overly cautious..........?

Ya know, that makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better to take that cedar off the sticks whe putting them in the humidor for exactly that reason...maybe he'd have caught on to it sooner and not lost quite as many sticks. Thanks for the info Michael!

Makes sense... but he said he thinks it;s the ceder wrap that sames his other cigars and kept them to just the 7 or 8 he lost?

You realize of course that a Beatle is a member of a 60's rock band, whereas a beetle is a nasty little bug that eats tobacco...

Sorry, but I HAD to say it!

You gotta keep your smokes at or below 75 degrees. Based on all my reading, the beetles eggs can hatch at temps 75 and above.

I know WAY too many people who put their humidors on the top floor of their home. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your cigars in the 60-70 range. I'm running at 68*-68% and they taste and burn just fine.

I checked out my 'A's.... nothing wrong so far. But will keep an eye on them for sure.

Thanks for the heads up!

Missed this post 1st time around. I don't think the beetles can chew through the cedar wrapper. So, if the wrappers are on, you won't be able to see the holes. Yes, they look cool, but if the wrapper prevents you from seeing possible damage....
