most lighters can be brought back.

A few tips.

When filling, stop and shake the can every few seconds or so.

Once the lighter is filled, I hear it is good to let it sit for awhile. Something about the temperature from being inside the can or something. May be bullshit, but I usually do it anyway.

When you light it for the first time after a refill, turn the flame all the way down and start bringing it up slowly as you light. Most lighter don't light because they are set too high.

Once you get a good flame, adjust it to where you like it.

Don't overfill the butane lighters, you will blow the seals in there. Only fill for about 5 seconds.

the butane in the can is liquid and you are putting liquid into the lighter, by letting it sit you are allowing it to adjust to air temp once it leaves the pressurized can so it starts to vaporize.

My Firebird is a champ. You might have air up in there. Next time you know its empty, do a purge. Press the valve on the lighter down, letting out ALL of the pressure. Then fill that SOB. The guys at CI tell me to purge the lighter before you fill it each time. That might not be necessary, but it sure isn't gonna hurt.

It actually takes me 2 to 3, 5 second fills to completely fill my Firebird. Usually on the 3rd, I get a little sprayback, then I know its full. Lasts me a good 6-8 lights. All 3 of my lighters (Xikar Executive, Nibo Royal 55 TJ, and Colibri Firebird) take about 10 total seconds to fill.

None of these are real expensive lighters with fancy ignitions. So lighting up on the 1st try is a 50/50 shot. However, 2nd shot and there after is usually a guarantee.

My experience is that purging a butane torch is pretty important. I purge about every other fill. I've got 3 Firebirds and all 3 are working like champs so far.

I had to disassemble and reassemble my Perdomo lighter because the flame would not turn up high enough to light, even with a full tank. Now, I can turn it up as high as I need since removing the safety stop (hehehe!!)

I tried a refit on my former lighter, but I think I f'ed it up. Plus, the O-rings were blown anyway.
