This might get political, but what really pumps my nads is the govrenment telling us what we can and can't do for the better of society, than tax the hell out of you if you do. Tobacco and Alcohol tax is outrageous! It is bad for you but if you decide to use it, they tax the hell out of you! That is a big source of income for them and they prey on ppls addictions.

Now to me smoke is smoke whether it is cig, cigar, or pipe. Allow all or nothing IMO.

I agree with you 99%.......not digging the "or nothing" option.

I am not digging that option either. I think that a compromise is in order. They should have smoking and non smoking sections. I think most bar and rest. Owners would not mind paying for this option either, my understanding is they are losing money because of these bans.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. With the technology we have now a days to elimate smoke it would be great to see areas desginated as smoking again.

here in illinois its illegal to smoke any tobacco product in any public place. casinos, bars, resteraunts.... aywhere. to add to it, at hospitals you cant smoke on the property. so a nurse or doctor couldnt go smoke in their car on a break because the car sits on the property.

a couple bars on my route tried selling membership cards for a dollar a piece... and claiming their bar was now members only, and no-longer public.

that worked for about a month.

this all went down last january 1st. now everbody accepts it. i dont smoke cigarettes but my thought on it, is if you dont like whats going on somewhere, then dont go there. i dont like gay bars (insert homo joke here) so i dont go. i dont try to close said establishment down, or put a gender ratio ban on them.

you know what i mean

BUT, IMO, smoking is smoking and whether it be cigar smoke or cigarette smoke there is still the supposed "second hand smoke" theory. I know a lot of people on here are die hard anti-cigarette people, but they are still a legal substance and cigarette smokers have rights too.

Just remember, the anti's are not anti-cigarette, anti-cigar, anti-pipe, etc. they are ANTI-TOBACCO. They want ALL forms of tobacco gone.

We can not allow ourselves to segregate ourselves as different groups of tobacco users. That is how the anti's are winning right now, by dividing and conquering us. Right now the cigar and pipe smokers are blaming cigarette smokers for giving us a bad name and the way that cigar and pipe smokers act and treat cigarette smokers makes them think that we are snobs. We have to stick together in the TOBACCO war.

If you let them take away one group of peoples rights, pretty soon they are going to come after your rights and there won't be anyone to stand up for yours because you didn't stand up for theirs.

We really need to stick up for everyone's right to use tobacco. Whether it is cigars, pipes, cigarettes, chew, dip, snuff, whatever.

We need to stop helping the anti's divide and conquer us and stop the self imposed segregation that we are doing.

This is my opinion and I'm not attacking or trying to offend anyone, I'm just trying to help fight for our rights to enjoy ourselves with something that is still legal to do.

I know this is a little long winded and border line political, and I also hope I didn't go to far off topic.
Great post Bob, and I totally agree.

However, where I had a problem, going back to the original post was a regular old bar with a bunch of people smoking cigarettes saying "we're a cigar bar".

They are not.

You make great points about having to stick together in the assault on the rights of smokers. If someone wants to smoke cigarettes, let them.

My issue is that a Cigar Bar is a special kind of place. All of the Cigar Bars I've been to have been upscale, classy places.

Cigars are a special treat to be savored. Cigarettes are an addiction.

Again, I have no problem with people's addictions.

I have a problem with dragging down the classy setting of a cigar bar into the realm of a regular bar.

To me, there is a big difference between these two places.

Kevin, you took the words right out of my mouth, just a few hours early.

Finally got caught up, really great stuff....

1) I do not agree with trying to cheat the system. But with anything the gov't puts out there, their are workarounds/loopholes.

2) I have been to a couple extremely elegant cigar bars in NYC. Humidor lockers, leather chairs/couches, upscale dress code, etc etc. There is a HUGE difference between that and a "bar." Period.

3) I am so tired of trying to figure out the logic of our gov't and the people who run it. There are SO MANY bigger issues on the radar than a smoking ban. Anyone wanna talk about global warming, the war in Iraq, the crumbling US$, oil prices, unemployment rates, demise of Social Security, Health Care costs, Homeland Security, etc etc etc....

No, we are worried about smoking. We all F*CKING KNOW BY NOW THAT SMOKING IS BAD FOR YOU! WE GET IT!!!!!!!!

WE GET IT!!!!!!!

If you are not smart enough to sit in a non-smoking section, not work at a "bar" that allows smoking, then quite frankly... kill yourself. Enough stupid people in the world to go around....

Damm I need a shot and a cigar....

I agree with your points Kevin, they are two totally different places with two totally different atmospheres. It was an underhanded trick by them to try and pass their establishment off as a pure cigar bar. And I do agree that they should not have done it and I am glad that they are not allowed to claim that they are. A cigar bar is a place of quite and/or semi-quite relaxation and a bar is, well a bar .

I just wanted to reiterate my points that sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it come to the tobacco war and we need to stand together as a united force as tobacco users against the anti-tobacco people.
I should have elaborated a little bit more on how much I agreed with you that they are two very different kinds of establishments, but I didn't want to take up a whole page .

I've never been to a cigar bar that looked like that.. nor do I want to. My perfect idea of a cigar bar is the Island Girl Cigar Bar. No books, alcohol and appatizer type food served, huge humidor, nice leather couches... oh and walls plastered with LCD TV's showing sporting events.

The Island Girl Cigar Bar is awesome, down to earth and is for the average cigar smoker.

I could be happy at either type of place. As a matter of fact, I could be fine at this place if I just felt like going to a bar.

I am comfortable fitting in a wide variety of settings.

The Island Girl Cigar Bar in Jacksonville is a happy medium between the two you posted, thats why I like it. You wont find annoying ass drunks with music too loud you couldnt enjoy a nice convo over a smoke but it doesnt make you feel like a snob for hanging out there either. Plus the mango salsa was delish

This is one of my favorites place in the world to hang out at for the exact reasons noted!

Would love to get a group of guys together there, but unfortunately in terms of cigars...well, we don't exactly have alot of nice options locally to justify a full blown herf. But if you're ever in town, give me a heads up....we'll get over there.
