Angel Daniel Núñez is leaving General Cigar Co.

Part of the article from CA:

General Cigar Co. announced late this afternoon that president and chief operating officer Angel Daniel Núñez, 57, will retire during the second quarter of 2009. Núñez has worked at General for more than three decades, and has served as the top executive at the company since April 2005. He will remain as an adviser to the Richmond, Virginia, company, which makes Macanudo, Partagas, Cohiba and many other cigars. General is a unit of Swedish Match AB, of Stockholm.

“After 34 years with General Cigar, I felt it was time to step down so that I can spend more time with my family and pursue other interests,” said Núñez in a statement. “Even still, tobacco is in my soul and I look forward to acting as an adviser to the company after my retirement.

Dan Carr, General’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, will succeed Núñez as chief operating officer upon his retirement. Carr rejoined General Cigar in 2007 after spending time at both Swedish Match and General, where he served as vice president of sales.

I got the release yesterday...I actually think it is a good deal for Daniel. IMHO I don't think Daniel liked doing CAGRS and spreadsheets and the corp stuff. He is primarily a tobacco guy. He loves being in the fields, the barns and the seeing the bulks. Tobacco is his thing. He is an Aggie and loves tobacco. This way I think he will focus on what he likes and not the corporate stuff.
