The Final Straw

I've had it with Thompson Cigar Company.

Recently, they sent me a five pack of La Perla Black Pearl Morados that were so dried out you'd swear they were baked in an oven. Before that, they sent me a sampler of cigars containing candela wrappers, when the ad showed no candela wrappers. Then they sent a buddy of mine CAO Maduros when he specifically ordered the CAO natural Connecticut wrapper. Thompson appears to believe it is "acceptable" to substitute maduro wrapper cigars for natural wrappers. Then I inquired about this month's cover sampler. I stated I did not want substitute cigars without my approval. They wrote back and stated:

"Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we are unable to request or specify which wrapper or size cigar to send with the sampler. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please advise if you would still like to have the Battle of the Brands as your club shipment. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to reply to us."

Oh.....I'm going to reply alright.

A cigar is a cigar is a cigar......right?

I sent them this:

"Very well. Then please cancel my December shipment entirely and cancel my Cigar Club membership as well. If I cannot select the cigars that I want, the Club is of no value to me. In addition, Thompson is not cost-competitive with other internet cigar sites.

Really, really disappointed with this experience."

Reasonably cordial, no?

No dirty words.

Now....where did I see those La Aroma de Cuba Special Edition something or others.......

Stan and Cycleman live near there, and I am going back up this weekend for the rest of the month.

Maybe one of us can light a bag of dog poop on the doorstep, ring the bell and run?

Ya know...it sounds sorta funny when you think about doin that sort of thing. But I can tell you that when you do that to a 78 year old man...and you see him jump like 3 feet in the air before coming down on that flamin bag of poop...and you see flaming dogshit fly all over the place...it's not funny. It's freaking hilarious!

Not that I would ever do such a thing of course

Well, you know, it's just like any other business transaction. I have to deal with vendors all the time in my engineering functions. You send me something I don't want, or send me damaged merchandise, and then just "apologize" over and over and over.....well, that's just not good enough.

It's damn insulting to us as cigar smokers. Show us some Fuente maduros and then send us some Fuente candelas...other than the cigar bands, they're hardly the same cigar. What do they THINK, we're like the people that buy the cheapest damn cigarettes on the planet that smell like burning garbage and figure that's good ENOUGH? I want only the BEST cigars in my boxes. I guess I'll just get them somewhere else.

I'm outta here boys, deer hunting 11/22/08 - 12/01/08.

Good smokin', good lovin' (not with each other tho...) and AVOID THOMPSON CIGAR CO.

I refuse to use Thompson for anything. They called my cell phone to sell me items. The woman on the phone would not take no for an answer and I had to get rude. Even still, she still kept trying to push the sale. Rather than be grateful of the business I was providing them, they wanted more. I use Famous Smoke and CI/Cbid for internet purchases. I try to buy a box every so often from the local B&M to throw some business their way.

Cigar.com - CigarIntl.com - Cigarbid.com

Not sure what else you need! Again, just a FYI, each of these sites is owned/controlled by Cigar International. Everything comes out of the same warehouse. Each site uses the same customer service.

They have ALWAYS been great to me. I have sent back 1 - 5 pack due to some cracked tips. I had the replacement with the return label the next day. They had a Gurkha Special that was a bit misleading and they allowed me to return some of the cigars and sent me the cigars I thought I would get.

The only way I will shop somewhere else is if I am looking for a cigar they do not carry. However, that hasn't happened yet.

I do have some bias since they are literally in my backyard

That seems real fair to me. I think I would've been a little more rude to be honest.

Deer is one of those things you don't normally eat that, thank God, doesn't taste like chicken.

As a matter of fact, you can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There's uh, deer-kabobs, deer creole, deer gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple deer, lemon deer, coconut deer, pepper deer, deer soup, deer stew, deer salad, deer and potatoes, deer burger, deer sandwich.

That- that's about it.
