boston bars under threat

not sure if you've heard of this but this post just came up about a ban on cigar bars in boston

I really get pissed off when I read this stuff. In my town they banned smoking in all bars and there's no license to even open a smokers' venue.

there's nowhere to sit, have a drink and a stogie except your own house. kills the social aspect of smoking.

I'd hate to see it happen in a place like boston or any of the USAs big cities

"...the new rules are intended to protect people from the ills of tobacco, in all its forms"

This is about the dumbest arguement I've ever heard. Protect us?!?!? Give me a damn break. If we're gonna inact law to protect us (like we're damn children) from harmful things then I'd like to see some action taken on these other (far more dangerous) activities we all engage in:

a. Driving. Make it illegal. Too many people die a day from accidents.
b. Crossing the street. The number of people hit by cars in crosswalks is on the rise.
c. Flying. Although rare, when a plane crashes there is a 99.9% chance all will be killed
d. Caffine. Do I really need to explain this one?
e. Work. I don't know about you, but most of my stress comes from work.

I'd also like to be provided a government issue bubble to protect me from the thousands of airborne germs present.....

F^cking idiots - be more creative with your justification to control which of my freedoms I can have and which I can't!

I guarantee you that work is the source of most of our health problems. Stress is at the root of most disease states. I want a gov't that protects me from work, not from the pleasure of smoking cigars, which don't even go into your lungs in the first place. My wife and I were just talking about moving to Scandinavia. I'm getting sick of this shit.

I don't think the anti smoking lobby will stop untill having tobacco in your possession is as illeagal as carrying meth

probably even ban dip, snuff and smokeless tobaccos

Freakin B.S., the same thing is going on here in Atlanta. I have gone to several bars where you are able to smoke cigaretts outside on the patio, BUT when trying to light up a stogie the manager comes out to say "put out your cigar, they are not allowed, the smoke is to strong for paying customer". Another bar (a cigar bar) mind you, tells me that I can no longer smoke cigars outside in front of the store because the community patrons are offended by the strong cigar smoke. ALL OF THIS IS **&%^$# B.S.

I gotta say, that'd likely be the last time that store would see any of my money.

Prior to the smoking ban, most restaurants around here would allow cigarettes but not cigars. It took a little work for me to find places I could take 15+ cigar smokers when we had the herf here last April
