Identifying a real RyJ Cuban
Found a store here that sell "cuban" cigars. I checked out the Cohibas and the bands passed the authenticity test. But I dont think they keep them very well humidified as most of the cigars in the "humidor" are unraveling themselves. But they do have RyJ "Habanos" in tubes for $5. The RyJ #1's actually. Seems kind of cheap for a cuban and what size is the RyJ #1? I dont want to search this on google because I dont want too many cigar websites to pop on the filter. Any info is much appreciated

There is no "Romeo y Julieta No. 1."
Under the Romeo y Julieta brand, there is one tubo named "Romeo No. 1." Its size is 5.5 x 40. Its price range is $100-$130 for a box of 25. $5/each sounds about right. There is another one named "Cedros de Luxe No. 1." Its size is 6.5x42. As the name applies, it's wrapped in cedar, non tubo. Its price is about $150 for a box of 25. Here is the link to this particular brand, including sizes: http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=31 Hope this helps. Stay safe.

Not sure how to ensure it is a real cuban, but that is the one cuban I ever had. That smoke gave me a cigar buzz that was out of this world. Had a buddy pick 5 of em up, he paid $25 each. It still is the best cigar I had to date.

Well $25 for a corona is pricey for any type of stogey. Must have bought it in the UK or Canada with hefty taxes? Anyways I'm going to go check these out again

Good luck Aces. I'd pass on the Romeo. Mild and not tasty. Now the CdL is a fantastic cigar. Probably my fav RyJ.

Aces, my most recent purchase (outside of the US of course) was RyJ Romeo #2s. I bought these at a Habanos SA Factory store in Mexico.
According to a couple sources I looked at before the purchase, you can look at... 1) Does the cap to the tubo screw on easily and evenly? If it barely fits, that's not a good sign. 2) Is there cedar in the tubo? 3) Do the coins on the cigar band have a lot of definition/detail? 4) If the box they came in is still available, you can look for the box stamp (Habanos s.a., HECHO EN CUBA, Totalmente a mano), box seal (says Habanos in red lettering with a yellow outline with fluoresces under ultra-violet black light), warranty seal (republica de cuba, coat of arms on the left side, cigar factory surrounded by plants on right, fluoresces under UV black light). THE WARRANTY SEAL should be located on the left hand side of the opening side of the box, and should be creased right down the middle of the coat of arms.

The bands look really sharp, so if there is even a hint that the bands look sketchy, don't buy them. Also, at $5 a piece, that's a steal for individual sale. In Asia, a box goes for ~$125 at the duty free. |

After having several different cubans, still don't know if I could tell on taste alone. The smoke is very heavy/rich. The burn is very long (#2 takes over an hour to smoke, and its a smaller cigar). I paid $8 in Mexico in a resort area. I know I overpaid, but I know I got the real deal.

Thanks for the info steve. I believe they are sitting in the box on the shelf in the tubes. I just remember seeing them my first day here. I havent been back to that shop yet but I will try to head out there today or tomorrow.

Picked one up... Band looks authentic.. it had the warranty seal but it came in a white tube and not a silver one. The construction on it is iffy.

Smoke should be white, heavy. Takes me awhile to smoke one given how small of a cigar it is.
