Does anyone else find it a little funny...
when some people discuss the "power" of some cigars, in that if you smoke it you will be curled up in the gutter outside the local hardware store naked? I have been smoking cigars (never cigs) for about 2 years and have NEVER felt sick or overwhelmed by the power of a cigar. I do not inhale, but both me and the lady are always laughing at reviews that talk of vomiting, laying on a cold floor after a cigar, calling 911, loss of balance, dizziness, cold sweats, diarhea, palpitations, sleepless nights, feelings of paranoia, or halucinations that some speak of when describing certain cigars. Our favorite is reviews that take a sort of warning tone, warning "noobs" about the intensity of a particular smoke: "This one is strong, be warned...If you smoke this cigar, you will leave yourself open to rectal abuse by the neighborhood as you lay in a pool of your own vomit and urine on your porch for days....so smoke slow and spit....oh and eat lots of sugar and by no means smoke on an empty stomach?" A coke? a full meal?....to smoke a cigar? is this real or people just bein dramatic? Perhaps an undelying medical condition?
I can honestly say I have never even felt a buzz from a cigar, maybe a little fuzzy, but sickness? heart rate issues? sleep deprivation? seeing the holy ghost? pleaase. I always laugh at RP's warnings "for experienced smokers" on the Edge boxes, i have had many nights where I have gone Oliva V, Ashton VSG, and LFD Chisel back to back to back, and while I didn't feel ready for the Boston marathon, I didn't soil my pants and convulse on the floor. 2-3 Opus X in a night, no problem except on the wallet. I know many a female smoker that prefer the LFD Chisel to any other smoke, and they can even drive home after suckin on it. This is not a macho post, as I am well aware of karma, but I have always wondered what gives? Other than the complete pussification of America, why are so many grown men fighting evidently for their faculties, or even lives, after a robust cigar and couple of espressos? You aren't dying, and there is no need to vomit, your grandfather didn't. Of course I will now vomit from the next Davidoff I smoke. |

And some people never catch the flu. Not everyone's system reacts the same. People who are new to nicotine may very well feel some adverse effects from it.

Some are sensitive to it. When I started out, two cigars would drop me for a day (I was 16 or so). Now, though I rarely smoke, it has little effect (mainly due to the fact that I use Copenhagen, I'm guessing). I do, however, still get wicked tobacco hangovers if I smoke a few cigars later in the day...especially if I pair it with a few drinks. A very good friend of mine has also smoked cigars for 10 years or so, and will still get knocked on his ass and sometimes get quite sick if he were to have a bit of Copenhagen. I suppose its all in what the body is accustomed to. |

Get it once and you won't think it is so funny.
![]() I have probably smoked a couple thousand cigars in the last several years, and yeah, I have had 2-3 occassions where I felt like absolute crap. It happens to the best of us, and doesn't make you any less "manly" if it happens to you.

Consider yourself lucky then. The old vitamin N seems to affect me pretty bad if I don't watch it... my father-in-law on the other hand can smoke a few cigars (and inhales them) and not feel a thing. But he has smoked his entire life.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I love the strong ones, but I have had one that knocked me on my ass. I might be because, (ready for some harsh comments from y-all) I do inhale a bit, just habit.
I had a 60 rg Romeo and Jul. tubo. I had not eaten all day, and must have be inhaling the bastage. I was a little green for about a half an hour, but got over it with a beer. The other day I lit a manOwar up, and inhaled the first puff, it gave me a little buzz, but not sickness. If I smoke too late at night, and try to go to sleep, I can feel my heart rate up... again.... I need to stop inhaling! But I love the right up, it made me laugh my ass off.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I've never gotten sick but I do at times get a little weak in the knees..... Happens very rarely to me now. But I've never had a horrible reaction to a cigar. But then again my first cigar was a Camacho Corojo Limited

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I've never had this happen to me either, but everyone reacts differently. Some people are so sensitive to nicotine and tobacco smoke that even being around someone that had a cigar an hour beforehand will give them a terrible reaction.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
Well I am certain if I inhaled an entire smoke it would be me in the gutter, so anybody that can do that is more of a leatherneck than me. I just was always amazed at the stories of cigar-sickness, like I said karma is a beetch, so I am sure my time will come.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I remember feeling pretty crappy after my first Oliva V, but i would blame that on a low nicotine tolerance. Having smoked many more cigars since then, I no longer have that problem. It takes some people a while to get use to some of the stronger sticks especially if they never smoked anything before, such is my case.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I am finding lately that I am more sensitive to nicotine now than when I first started smoking cigars. Granted that since then I quit cigs and am now only smoking a few cigars a week but still. I had a cubao number six yesterday and I had to set it down with two inches left. Normally with a smoke that tasty I go down to an inch or less but I was definitely feeling the kick. Not sick, but definately feeling it.
That being said I can't remember the last time that I felt like that because of a cigar. All the same, it happens to the best of us.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
There is an air of exaggeration to it, but getting sick from a cigar isn't a pussification problem. I can handle most any cigar by now, but if I've got an empty stomach or particularly if I'm dehydrated, a strong cigar will put me down hard. I smoked a Camacho Corojo Scorpion with a nearly empty stomach and felt sick. A couple teaspoons of sugar and a big glass of water quickly put me right, but it still happens. Sometimes there seems to be no reason at all. I smoked a San Cristobal belicoso after a pasta dinner and couldn't finish it. Not a particularly hardcore cigar and I had food in me, but I got pretty sick off of it. Now, the strange thing about me is I've never gotten a buzz off of nicotine. Never has a cigar or any other medium of nicotine delivery made me feel any different unless it made me sick. I either feel perfectly normal, or perfectly like sh*t. Dunno, it's weird.

Re: Does anyone else find it a little funny...
I don't know if I've ever gotten sick from just a cigar's nicotine before, but I know of a time or two when I was smoking either a cigar, with a dip in my mouth, and another where I was sharing a cigar with a friend, while smoking a cigarette and with a dip in my mouth. All, of course, awhile back in high school, but still.
I don't personally think that it's a manliness thing, it's more in relationship to how well you've built your nicotine tolerance up. Kind of like another plant that was smoked back in my high school days- First timers might be feeling crazy off of what the "vet"s thought to be weak-sh/*t. ![]() -V

Never happened to me either. I do feel bad for those that it does happen to, it has to take a good deal out of the enjoyment of the cigars.
