How long do you wait

The man in Brown was just here and gave me a package I been waiting for.

So I treated him to a RP Junior.

Question is...

How long should I wait before placing the cigars in the humi? They are darn cold right now. Let them warm up for a few hours or just put them right in?

I'd throw 'em right in. I don't see a reason why you'd need to wait.

Whether they warm up in your humi or in your house, I don't think it will make a difference. FWIW, i put my cigars in the humi after I'm done inspecting them.

I put 'em right in. No waiting.

Re: How long do you wait

I thought maybe you were going to ask how long to wait to smoke. I usually have to try one right away without rest, and then let the others rest two weeks or more in the humi. I always inspect and then add to the humi right way, but I do leave the newbies isolated inside a ziplock baggie during the first couple of weeks, incase beetles appear.

I'm not too worried about beetles, it's cold here outside so I'm sure in the truck ride during the last couple of days, they been frozen, or darn close to it.

Thanks for the replies. In they will go.

However, I now get to play Tetris.

I freeze all my newly arrived cigars before I put them in the humi.
double ziplock bags - three days in the freezer - then one day in the refrigerator

Huh??

I'm expecting my first package from CI tomorrow and never would have thought about bugs of any kind. Makes me 'wonder what else I don't know'! Educate, please, oh wise ones..

Re: How long do you wait

It probably doesn't matter, however, when I order smokes during the winter months and they arrive cold I like to let them sit out over night before introducing them to my humidor. I always just figured there may be more chance of them cracking if I introuduced them to a humid environment when they were still icy cold.

I'm sure I'm probably just being a little too cautious though.

Enjoy your smokes!

Way to scare the new guy. Just do a little search on the beetle subject.

I did let them sit for about an hour and a half while I played Tetris in the humi.

here's a link with more than you want to know about tobacco beetles.
How to Detect and Eliminate Beetles in Cigar Humidors
I have never had them, and don't worry about them, but always isolate newbies in my humidor, just in case. Warm 80+ degree temps start the larvae cycle.

Well I've been "bugged" once, lucky for me, the cigar was in a cello, so the bug died before it could cause anymore damage.

I ALWAYS freeze my cigars

Re: How long do you wait

I let them sit in the house for several hours before introducing them into the humi. Might not matter, but I figure going from 20 degrees with next to no humidity to 70/70 or so could cause splits, bursts.

Re: How long do you wait

Rapid changes in temperature or humidity may cause a cigar to crack or delaminate. I always let new deliveries acclimatize for a few hours at least before putting them in the humidor.
