Celo question with a twist

Oh no! another celo question.............kinda

Recently I have aquired a few bundles that are packaged in plastic. When they arrived, I put them into the coolador with my other boxes and singles. Should I unwrap these and keep them in a box. I'm guessing that for the short term, there's no reason to unpack them. But if I plan on aging them for some time, I'm thinking it's better to take them out of their plastic packaging. Here's a shot of what I'm talking about.

I like the new smilies..

Re: Celo question with a twist

That does look like packing plastic to me, not cello.
If it is packing plastic its not breathable so get rid of it asap, its only there to hold whatever (possible v little) moisture was in the cigars when packed. They need to breathe the nice moist air of the humidor

My landlord has had a box of Davidoff Millenium Robustos in a vacuum pack in his cupboard for months, i shudder to think too much about how bad it is for these lovely cigars!

Re: Celo question with a twist

Interesting..
But I presume these come from the manufacturer like this since they are stickered by them. So who knows how long they have already been sitting at the retailer.
I really don't plan on keeping them in there, but for convenience for storage, I thought it would be ok for at least a short time.
But I really don't know.

Re: Celo question with a twist

I have several different cigars that were bundled this way. I haven't tested them, but most of them didn't seem like they were hermetically sealed. I usually wind up opening one end of the over-wrap, and leaving them in it, just because I don't have enough boxes right now to store them all. Once I swing by the B&M, I'll take care of that, though. I can't take them out of the wrappers, or they'll just tumble around loose in the cooler! Even in the wrappers, they're always right on the verge of it, anyway. Some of you guys play Cooler Tetris, mine's more like Jenga.

Re: Celo question with a twist

I haven't done a test myself but it apparently makes no difference to aging if the celo is on or off.

however if you have a tabacco beatle in one stick it won't be able to spread to the rest because it can't eat through the plastic

Re: Celo question with a twist

and from looking at this picture it would appear that the cigars are individually wrapped as well as the outer packaging.

I say to take the outer packaging off just in case it's not breathable like the celo is

I used cello in the title more as a spoof, because this topic has been posted so many times. But I've never seen anything on the plastic that holds together the bundles. The cigars are indeed also wrapped in cello. I don't think the plastic is so air tight that it would cause a problem, but then again, I don't know.
But I'm with you in that the safe bet is to open these babies up.

the last thing you want is to light up and get a mouthful of ammonia.

if you really want to keep them in a bundle you can always use a rope or rubber band or just slip a divider in your humi

Take them out so they can get some air and moisture. No protection against beetles anyway. They eat right through cello, plastic, whatever.

Good one. I can't wait to play myself. The cooler will be set up in a month or so I'm sure.

Re: Celo question with a twist

I set the little bastages free. Didn't want to take any chances. I had 3 bundles of 25. I'm going to have to find some boxes or something to keep them better organized. Thanks for your input.
